28th NSW MINI TROTTING CHAMPIONSHIPS Nowra Showground 6th-7th-8th April 2012
Dear Mini Trotter,
Our Shoalhaven Club is only a few years young and we are very excited to be able to host this year's event at the Nowra Showground which is located at the Western end of Worrigee St, Nowra. Please be aware that the Shoalhaven's population more than doubles over the Easter weekend so don't forget to book your accommodation early and when you are on your way please allow extra travelling time - we wouldn't want you to miss out on anything! This letter covers general information about the Championship weekend along with your nomination forms.
"Good Friday" Friday 6th April 2012
After you have had your pony's height checked and have settled in, please take advantage of the evening meals available at the Nowra Bowling Club (one of our club sponsors) this is located a short two blocks walk from the showground. If you would like to eat at the Bowling Club please indicate on the nomination form. I have attached a kids menu for your convenience.
"Championship Day" Saturday 7th April 2012 (Height Handicap)
Midgets: 9 hands and under . Shetlands: 9.1 hands to 10.2 hands . Ponies: 10.3 hands to 13 hands Ponies will be handicapped 10 metres each inch in height. All ponies will contest 3 heats in their division, from these heats a point score is kept with the top 10 advancing to the main final for each division. The winners of the 3 main finals are awarded 'The State Champions' in their division. (All ponies will be measured so please ensure correct height is recorded on your nomination form).
"Hanging Rock Classic" Sunday 8th April 2012 (MPS Timing)
All Ponies will race throughout the day based on their "metres per second" timing. Two heats per pony with a point score determining final placing.
"Camping" powered site = $17 per night per family (2 Adults + Children free) non- powered = $12 per family per night If you are camping please indicate on your nomination form.
"Measuring" 6th April from 2pm – 5pm (other times by 'appointment only' with stewards)
"Celebration Dinner" We will be hosting the complimentary dinner on Saturday 7th April. Our Shoalhaven Club look forward to you joining us to catch up and share a good meal. This will be held onsite at the Showground from around 7pm. To assist us with catering please indicate on the nomination form how many will be attending this dinner.
"Stables/Yards" We will not be reserving stables; it's a 'first in - first served' situation. Stables/Yards fee is: $10 per pony per night
"Pony Feed" Available by pre ordering and paying ' Jervis Bay Feeds' 0244478220 JB Feeds will be onsite Friday 6th April 2012 3pm - 4pm
"2012 AGM" Sunday 8th April 2012 approximately 4pm at the Showground.
"Important" Nomination fees are $5 per pony per day. Payment must be received with the form. Nominations for the Championships close at 5pm on Monday 27th February 2012. Nominations will not be accepted after this. Official forms will only be accepted. Phone nominations will not be accepted.
IT IS ADVISED PARTICIPANTS HAVE THEIR OWN AMBULANCE COVER.
This event will be conducted under the Rules and Regulations of NSW Mini Trotting Association Inc. A copy can be located from www.nswminitrots.com.au. The Stewards and Judges decision is final.
In the event of inclement weather, the Championship Day program will take priority. The Hanging Rock Classic Day will be amended as requested at the organiser's discretion.

Four competitive events were conducted at Newcastle Paceway tonight
In the first event Connor MacDonald brought Your Kiddin Me home with a well timed run to beat the fast finishing Ginjara well driven by Emma Sherwood in a close finish just in front of Brad Elder driving Little Andy and a gallant Paleface Deb for Abby Lonsdale.
Second event saw Connor MacDonald grab an early double when Arabella made a long run to run down early pacemaker Andy 's Cotton Candy well rated in front by Andrew Bourke who hit the line for second in a close finish with Fluffy for Lily Akhurst and Defoe for Renae Sherwood who flashed home late.
Next event saw a bold front running display by Tom Grant driving Cant Catch Corky confidently for a great win. This was Tom's maiden win and congratulations on the effort to the smallest horse in the race and driver. Honey for Abbey Morgan ran home stoutly for second, Your Kiddin Me ran third. One of our newest members Jake Hughes showed his potential finishing just behind the placegetters on Little Andy
Final event on the programme saw Black Snow run a much improved run for Maddie Hanson and Maddie looked all over a winner until the long striding Arabella and Connor MacDonald loomed up to draw away to give Connor his most successful night to date. Maddie Hanson held off fast finishing stablemate Raffa for team Morgan driven by stable foreman Daniel. Gransha for Brad Elder ran an eye catching run to finish just behind the placegetters

Newcastle Maitland Mini Trot conducted its Carnival of Cups events in conjunction with Maitland Harness Clubs Inter City Pace on Saturday 7th January.
24 ponies attended the meeting which saw exciting racing throughout the night. First event of the night the Cheryl and Peter Lowe Memorial saw Paleface Deb successful for Abbey Lonsdale beating Ashleigh's Honey driven by Sydney visitor Chris Geary with the consistent Black Snow running third for local Dan Morgan
Next up was the running of a memorial event for long serving member of our association Anne Marie Hancock who passed away after a long illness last year. Connor MacDonald was successful on Arabella defeating Tori Hancock on her pony Little Romeo while Tamworth visitor Mr Fantangle was a fast finishing third for Scotty Welsh-Brown.
We then saw the running of our first Carnival of Cup event sponsored by HRNSW. It what developed into an exciting finish the Dan Morgan trained and driven Black Snow took out the event. Ashleighs Honey was a gallant second for Chris Geary and the unlucky Mad Sassy finishing third for Madelene Bond in the Luke McCarthy colors.
Final event was the HRNSW sponsored Carnival of Cup saw a battle up front between Little Romeo and Hot Chilly Lily keen to win the event however many horses were closing quick on the pair as the field neared the post but Tori Hancock prevailed on Little Romeo just defeating the brave Hot Chilly Lily well driven by Andrew Bourke and fast finishing Ben Tennyson third for Rory Brown.
Credit must go to all the members that participated on the night with all drivers and ponies putting on a first class display that had the big crowd entertained throughout the night. Well done to all

2012 Perth Pony Trot Interdominion

The Be Active WATA Pony Trots would like to invite four representatives from each state for each height division:

DIVISION 1 -10.2hh and under
DIVISION 2 - Over 10.2hh up to and including 13hh

Ponies will be handicapped on height (ie: each pony will be handicapped 10m for every inch of height). An outside qualified official measurer will measure all ponies.

Heats will be run on the following nights:

Monday 20th February – Gloucester Park
Friday 24th February – Gloucester Park

Newcastle Maitland rounded out their calendar year with an exciting night at Newcastle Paceway.
The night began with Connor MacDonald being successful on Your Kiddin me holding off the fast finishing backmarkers Diamond Prince for Fred Underwood and Brad Elder bringing Gransha home for third. Good runs in race were noticed by the Mat and Tom Grant duo of Shooting Star who made late ground and Can't Catch Corky who was among the early pace but tired over the concluding stages.
Second event of the night saw victory to a very happy Ben Grant steering Silver Star to a late win catching Blue Jeans who looked the winner close to the line for Bree Akhurst. Captain Rex ran a game race for third with Nic Bourke just holding off brother Andrew driving Black Snow.
Final event of the night saw Ben Grant and Silver Star post a double on the programme and one very happy driver. Paleface Deb well rated by Abbey Lonsdale looked to have the event in her keeping only to be beaten in the last few strides. Nic Bourke completed the night with another placing on the consistent Captain Rex.
Roxy (Lily Akhurst) Honey (Abbey Morgan) Tommy (Keon and Kade Dawson) as well as the Dan Morgan trained Raffa all produced patches of form and look for these in the winner circle in the coming weeks

HRNSW yesterday announced a new concept for mini trot participants.With a decline in membership in our older age bracket it has been addressed as to how we may keep members to assist and foster harness racing sport.The concept know as MAXI TROTS with be an option for our 14 and 15 year old members however mini trots will maintain it's value to the sport as to progress to Maxi Trots certain levels in mini trots must be reached.

Maxi Trots to Bridge the Gap

HRNSW Chief Executive Sam Nati was instrumental in the Maxi Trots concept.
HRNSW in conjunction with the NSW Mini Trotting Association have created a new level of participation for 14 and 15 year-old Mini Trots drivers.
Analysis over a ten year period highlighted that there was a large drop off rate in participation in the 14 to 15 year-old age bracket which effected the progression of Mini Trots drivers obtaining a B Grade Drivers Licence.
Following a series of concept meetings, a new racing brand labelled Maxi Trots will allow drivers that have competed in Mini Trots during the preceding three years to drive full sized Standardbreds in exhibition races.
Its introduction aims to provide stimulation, progression, a greater challenge and to encourage a larger participation in the sport of harness racing.
NSW Mini Trotting Association Secretary Daryll Jackson was welcoming the news.
"Maxi Trots will promote friendly competition in an atmosphere of co-operation and good sportsmanship and will assist the void between when participants are too old for Mini Trotting and when they can be involved at senior level - a gap that needs to be bridged," he said.
"The Maxi Trotting concept also provides an additional opportunity to promote life after racing for Standardbreds and the relative application of important animal welfare strategies.
"Offering the opportunity to participate in Maxi Trots is seen as a way to address the wastage of horses in the industry, in essence Maxi Trots can provide viable opportunities for sound horses of good temperament that are not competitive in licensed events."
There are restrictions on which horses can compete in Maxi Trots events and it includes certain limitations such as; they must be deregistered from racing; they must have had a minimum of 20 official career race starts and not won more than 2 official career races, they must be six years of age or older, though officials also reserve the right to include other horses upon application.
Maxi Trots events are to be limited to six (6) horses per race and will predominantly use the standing start mode which will allow races to be handicapped based on both the horse and drivers ability.
Furthermore, the practice of easing or pushing in or out at any time is prohibited as is the use of whips and the use of more than one item of removable or adjustable gear on horses is prohibited. (e.g. hopple shorteners, deafeners, sliding blocks etc).
Guidelines for penalties have also been created.
HRNSW Chief Executive Sam Nati was instrumental in implementing the concept.
"HRNSW is committed to thinking outside of the square when it comes to the sport of harness racing. We must evolve as other sports have around us otherwise we will be left behind," said Nati.
"Maxi Trots will provide an exciting opportunity for our up and coming drivers in a restricted and safe environment and will enhance in between race entertainment for on course patrons.
"I'd like to commend Daryll Jackson for his foresight with the concept and our insurer OAMPS for recognising the need for such an avenue in our sport".
Maxi Trots will commence in late February 2012. Drivers will be licensed under the conditions of a stablehands licence with the same terms and conditions, pending insurance compliance.

Officials. members, families and friends of NSW Mini Trotting Association are saddened to hear of the sudden passing of JENNIFER COX
Jennifer was very active in her involvement in mini trots being secretary of Penrith Nepean Club, moving on to form the new Inner City Club and of course serving as Secretary of the state body NSW Mini Trotting Association.
Over this period Jennifer was very active assisting wherever she could from parent, stapper, bbq's, right through to official positions.
Association passes on it's sympathy's to Brett, Tyler, Krysten, Laurie and Narelle who all worked as a team with their many ponies with Aussie Down Under being successful as a NSW Champions.
Jennifer will be missed by many and for those who had been involved will have a much better experience for having met JENNIFER COX.

Concern has been expressed by HRNSW as to mini trots members aged between the age of 11 and 14 years being permitted to assist in the preparation of standardbreds under their current mini trot participation membership.

HRNSW is currently reviewing race day security and operations in light of it's appointment of a Regulatory Manager and until the policy is finalized mini trot participants membership will be for mini trots purposes only and have no rights concerning preparation of standardbreds and Rule 1.4 Drivers (G) from our manual will become void

The bona fides of insurance and interpretation of the phrase "preparation of standardbreds" having wide interpretations by mini trot participants contributed to this decision .

NSW Association are pleased to announce that one of our newest affilated clubs Shoalhaven Club (Nowra) have been granted the 2012 NSW Championships.
This club has come a long way in a short time and with many active members involved plans have already started to be made and members should mark this down as a must already.
Looking forward to 2011.

As runners were preparping for the first event at the NSW Championships the news come through of the passing away of Anne-Marie Hancock.
Anne- Marie's involvement in mini trots has been long lasting and full of enthusuasim. Eldest daughter Danielle was first to be involved and Anne-Marie quickly become involved in the running of her club. Tori followed in mini trotting and despite the sad news on the day put up a brave front to compete and was great to see Tori win in her last drive at the carnival.
After being a tireless worker for the Newcastle Maitland club as a commitee person Anne-Marie stepped up to the position of President of the club always putting the junior members needs first. Anne- Marie was not looked upon by the junior members as president but as a friend.
Anne-Marie's involvement in mini trotting did not finish at club level when the state association was looking for someone to take the position of treasurer Anne- Marie had no hesitation in taking the position and has helped right up to past few weeks addressing envolopes for championship nominations.
Anne-Marie was always on hand to help out clubs and members that may have needed advice and all those that had contact with Anne-Marie are better for the experience.
All members and friends of the association wish to pass on their sympathy to Wayne, Danielle and Tori and many memories of Anne- Marie will be long lasting.
ANNE-MARIE YOU WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN.

27th running of NSW Mini Trot Championships held at Maitland Showground over the Easter period resulted in last years champions retaining their titles however two of them were with new drivers.
With a record 149 ponies nominated all attending must be congratulated for the manner in which the carnival was conducted. All the drivers showed what talent is flowing through our junior ranks and if they choose to continue their careers into the the senior ranks harness racing certainly has some budding stars in it's ranks.
With the heats all completed, time for the finals and in the midget section placings were

Following information for those attend Championships at Maitland in relation to Rules & Regulations in Manual



H) All horses competing with the association will be required to be micro chipped for identification purpose. Implantation must be recorded with the association on appropriate forms Failure to comply may result in horse being declared ineligible to compete within the association. Horses will permitted for 12 months (except championship events) before this rule will be enforced.



Newcastle Maitland Association has been able to secure a vet to do micro chipping. With the Easter period being a difficult time to have someone available the only time we have been able to obtain a vet is FRIDAY 22ND APRIL BETWEEN 8AM AND 10AM. Due to another engagement he must leave Maitland Showground by 10 am and is unable to stay past this time. The cost for the micro chipping will be $25 per pony.

I) Ponies wishing to compete at associations NSW championships must have competed in at least one event conducted under race conditions in current season.

27th NSW Mini Trot Championships are almost upon us, with past championships have been held at venues such as Gundagai, Young, Gamain, Gilgandra, Tamworth, Blacktown,Taree, Penrith, Cowra,Leeton to mention a few, host club this year Newcastle/Maitland will conduct the event at Maitland Showground on 23rd & 24th April.
Inaugural Mini Trotting Championships took place in 1984 at the Young Annual Show.The Championships, now known as the "NSW Mini Trotting Championships" started as the "Australasian Mini Trotting Championships".
Bill Bradley was at Young's trotting identity Albert Butt's home, there was a discussion regarding attractions for the local show. Bill came up with the concept of a mini trotting championship. There were those who thought that it wouldn't succeed.
Bill, with Allan Patterson's (current President)assistance organized the event with entries from Victoria, Queensland & NSW.
Racing Rules for the Championship were decided on at a meeting on the first morning of the event. Those Racing Rules formulated at that meeting, will be the Racing Rules at the 27th NSW Mini Trotting Championships, with the added 10 metres penalty for a win in a final.
Shetland Division was won by Dynamite (Qld) – Darren McCall, 2nd & 3rd Shetlands came from Queensland.
Pony Division winner was Smarty (NSW) – Anthony Nichols, with Victorian Ponies 2nd & 3rd.
Major sponsors were Les Edwards's $1,000 trophies. Jim Walsh a Regal Gig,
An amazing 149 nomiations have been received for 2010/11 championships an indiction that support from HRNSW over the past few seasons has mini trotting to a new level of interest.
11 past winners of NSW Championships have nominated for this year creating much interest in who be crowned the winner of the three divisions this season.
All NSW Affiliated clubs have strong represtation and along with Qld nominations and New Zealand driver Sean Grayling this year we have wide range of hopeful drivers.
Racing begins 9 am Saturday with free entry.

Newcastle Maitland today attended the 150th running of the Maitland Show.Held under hot conditions the association conducted 4 heats with members keenly competing for a position in the final field of the Frank Terenzini MP Appreciation.

With the heats run the final field decided the ponies took to the track all focused on taking out the prize of winning at their local show.

Flags dropped and Andrew Bourke comes out hard on Rainbow Charm setting a fast pace with Thomas Hutton aboard Mini Moo and newcommer Abbey Lonsdale positioning Paleface Deb just off the pace. Back in the field Andys Cotton Candy (Nicholas Bourke) Your Kiddin Me for Connor MacDonald and Ashleigh's Honey for Noah Mordue were making their runs together while Tori Hancock was working Little Romeo over to the fence to save ground. Backmarkers Princess Jasmine driven by Sharnie Potts and Brad Elder's pony Gransha both began well and both were making good ground.

As the ponies approached the top of the straight Rainbow Charm just lead but found the early pace a little too much and strong challenges were coming from both Mini Moo and Paleface Deb.The pack behind were closing quick on the front runners and it was a matter of the smaller ponies could make it up Heartbreak Hill before being swamped by Andys Cotton Candy, Little Romeo, Your Kiddin Me and Ashleigh's Honey. However big danger was looming from Brad Elder's Gransha and Princess Jasmine trying to go with Gransha.

As the winning post looms a couragous Rainbow Charm surrenders the lead but tries to fight back as Thomas Hutton takes Mini Moo to the lead and Abbey Lonsdale (Paleface Deb) hard on his back making good ground just behind Your Kiddin Me, Andys Cotton Candy, Little Romeo and Ashleighs Honey are coming home hard but wide on the track Gransha makes his run and Princess Jasmine also looms as a threat.

Granshas coming home quickly wide on the track but Thomas Hutton sits quietly on Mini Moo and 5 year old local wins the major event at Maitland Show just holding out Brad on Gransha with Abbey Lonsdale fighting on well for third at her first outing on Paleface Deb just holding off the fast finishing Andys Cotton Candy, Your Kiddin Me and Little Romeo. In what was a busy finish pacemaker Rainbow Charm, Princess Jasmine and Ashleigh's Honey finished close up.

Newcastle Maitland members also paid tribute to long serving local harness idenity Ned Wilcher during the day.

Newcastle Maitland Club have invited New Zealand to send a driver over to compete at the 27th NSW Mini Trot Championships.
Former winner of the the NSW Championships Karli Mexon approached the club wanting to help with the champiomships and it was decided that she would prepare former winner Rock N Merlyn for the event and we would invite a driver to compete.
Fifteen year old Sean Grayling has been chosen comes from Pukekohe which is 50km's from Auckland were Sean is in Year 11
Sean has been a member of Counties Kidz Kartz (NZ Mini Trots) for 5 years and is one of the founding members were he has won the premiership twice for the most wins in a season
Sean has gained experience working for 3 different trainers and has been driving fast work for over a year and really enjoys this side of the industry.
Sean hopes to leave school when he is 16 and become a junior driver with other interests cricket and rugby which he also plays as well as league but a Crusader's fan all the way and of course The All Blacks.
Sean likes KFC enjoys Pop/Hip-hop music and favourite driver is Tony Herlihy

New South Wales Mini Trotting Association is pleased to announce that BEN LAMB, aged 15, from Wyalong will be their proud representative and ambassador at the upcoming 2011 Interdominion Series for Mini Trotters to be held in New Zealand. Ben has raced with the Riverina Club since he started mini trotting aged five.

The Association received quality nominations from drivers across the state and all can be commended on their efforts and achievements.It is unfortunate that the Association is only permitted to send the one driver as all of those nominated would have done NSW Mini Trotting proud.

Good luck to Ben and his family who will be accompanying him on his trip of a lifetime. We look forward to you sharing your stories and experiences upon your return.

Sorry about the delay in dates couple of clubs go on holiday over christmas and didnt come back to the 17th jan so we are going to race on tuesday 5th april at Ashburton 7th at Banks Peninsula (these meetings on grass) and 8th on final night at Addington . There will be 2 races each day one race for the minis and one race for the ponys at each meeting.We will supply all minis and ponys 12 of each so there will be six Australlians six NZ kids . All kids pay there own way . There is a great place to stay in christchurch we have all north island kids stay there when we have NZ cup its a holiday park swimming pool games room play ground and only minutes to shopping mall would be great for every one to stay there together also great bbq areas and kitchens .We also need each Australian/Nz states representative by Fri 12 Feb. Metropolitan Mini Trotting Club have had a "forced" break from racing most recently due to the wet and wild conditions. They look forward to returning to the track very soon!



The Club sends speedy recovery wishes to Cindy Carpenter who is in hospital at the moment. Hope you are feeling better soon, Cindy.



The Club also wishes NSW participants a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

The Shoalhaven Mini Trotting Club conducted races at Goulburn on the weekend of 5th December.

Madelane Bond from Newcastle joined in with the Shoalhaven kids driving Little Miss Lilly for the day! It was great have Madelane attend and gave all the kids a great chance to amke some new friends!

Leeton Mini Trotting Club will be conducting mini trotting events this Saturday evening, November 13th, 2010 at the Leeton Harness Racing Club's meeting.

If you are interested in representing NSW contact me on the details at the bottom.Be aware the last time we sent a representive to New Zealand the representive was responsible for all arrangements and expenses and at this stage this will be the case this time. Our association has been invited to select a representive with further details to follow. The email reads

" In 2011 Christchurch will be hosting the Kidz Kartz Pony Interdoms for kidz 10-16 yrs of age. This is just an email to give you notification that we are in the process of organising the interdoms and that we will be asking if any Australian representatives would like to attend. The likely format will be that we will be asking for 5-6 Aust kids to attend to be divided between all states but this wont be until the new year. We will keep in contact with you as planning progresses."

On the 15th of August the Riverina Mini Trotting Club travelled with Priests Buses to Selwyn Snowfields. Whilst on the bus we conducted our award presentation for the 2009-2010 seasons.

It was also great to see Zane and Chris present Allan Patterson with a box of chocolates. The club would like to thank Allan and Terry for organising the day and Wayne Priest for driving the club to the snowfields.

Newcastle Maitland Club has plans well underway for the 2011 Championships to be held at Maitland Showground 23rd and 24th April. While we still have a few events available for sponsoring however we are pleased to announce that with assistance from Garrard's Horse and Hound children participating at the championships will have their names placed into a draw and the successful person will win themselves a new Rio Mini Trot Sulky.
Newcastle Maitland Club wishes to thank Garrard's for assisting us with this prize as well as contributing to other prizes and donations for the championships.
For those wishing to make forward planning we can tell you that stabling for the ponies will be $10 for the whole championships while those of you wishing to camp on the ground the fees will be $15 per night for power sites and $5 per night for sites without power

Inner City were back into action last Friday Night at Tabcorp Park Menangle.

2 races were contested on the night with the 1st race been taken out by Smoke Cloud driven by Nathan Xuereb with a very close finish with Nidya and Kate McKenzie coming into 2nd place, followed by Yogi Bear and Sam Xuereb in 3rd place.

In the 2nd race, new members Blake and Jayden Wahlstrom hit the quinella with their ponies Cheeky Charlie and Keep Left in 1st and 2nd place. Not too far behind we had Nidya and Kate McKenzie finishing in 3rd place.

Inner City would like to welcome the new members into our club and wish them all the best in the 10/11 season. We have so much planned for this coming season with more sponsors and great gifts for all members. We will be racing at Menangle on Friday 24th September. On a side note, a member from Inner City Club is missing a rug from the NSW Championships - we like to think that it has been 'mistakenly' picked up rather than than 'deliberately' picked up. The rug is easily identifiable sporting the Inner City colours and printed information - obviously a child is quite upset that their dress rug is missing so we ask that everyone has a look through their rugs and gear from the Championships to see if it may have ended up there. If you happen to find the rug, or have any details regarding it's whereabouts, please contact David McElhinney on the number above so it can be reunited with it's owner.

Newcastle Maitland Club held their Dinner Presentation night Sunday 13th June at East Maitland with special guests "Miss Inter Dominion" Natalie Rasmussen and HRNSW CEO Sam Nati. Maitland Mayor Peter Blakmore , Member for Maitland and Minister for Housing Frank Terenzini also attended along with officials of Newcastle and Maitland Harness Clubs.
Maitland Mayor Peter Blakmore announced that the Maitland Showground will be the venue for the NSW Championships to be held on 23rd and 24th April 2011. Newcastle Maitland Club is well underway with plans for the championships and soon affiliated club officials will receive a booklet containing a directory of the Maitland region. If you are interested in attending the championships ask your club official for a copy in the next couple of weeks.
Newcastle Maitland Club loses two members this year and everyone that has been involved with Samantha Moore and Ashleigh Jackson over the years wish them all the best in the future.
Newcastle Maitland Club Dinner/ Presentation Night was a huge success capped off by a tribute DVD to Blacks a Fake and Sam Nati interviewing Natalie Rasmussen that kept the guests interested. Natalie started out in min trots although she says she has been lucky it shows what can be achieved if you are dedicated to prove yourself in the sport. Members of the club have enjoyed a fun season and would like to thank visitors from other affiliated clubs that raced with us over the season and look forward to seeing more of you all next season. Many friend were made over the season and all members look forward to seeing you all soon.
Clubs racing now in recess until August however plans for Championships will continue to take place and Newcastle Maitland will continue to update on events both on NSW Mini Trot Site and Facebook.

Racing Saturday 5th June at Newcastle Paceway saw keen racing with Tamworth Club venturing south with 7 ponies from their club.
First event of the night saw White Lightning running out the winner for Matthew Letton beating home Dream master driven by Kate Moore and Scotty Brown bringing Mr Fantangle in for third. Stablemates Snowball Chance (Tom Ison), MacKaninny (Ben Ison) both ran good races for their first outing on the Newcastle venue.
Emma Ison gave a bold front running display on Pippyarta to take out the second event of the night holding off the fast finishing Secret Mission from Rory Brown on My First Star. Consistent Jacko (Alec Butterfield) and Joycie May (Courtney Sutherland) were close behind the placegetters.
Third event of the night was to bring down the curtain down on the career of 3 of our mini trot drivers. Samantha Moore, Ashleigh Jackson and Courtney Sutherland were having their final drives at the Newcastle venue retiring at the end of the month having reached 16 years will not be with next year and we thank the three girls for their involvement in mini trots and wish them all the best for the future. It was Samantha Moore with the fairy tale finish wining her last race on current NSW Champion Secret Mission finishing fast out wide on the track to defeat Jacko driven by Alec Butterfield.. Ashleigh Jackson (Ashleighs Honey) and Courtney Sutherland (Joycie May) both ran well but were unable to be victors in their final appearance but as always happy to be involved with their friends.

Newcastle Maitland Club have been granted the honour to conduct the 2011 NSW Mini Trot Championship April 23rd 24th 2011. Newcastle Maitland Club will be announcing the venue for the event at their gala Dinner /Presentation Night to be held at East Maitland Bowling Club on Sunday 13th June starting at 5.30 PM.

Special Guest will be the trainer driver of 4 time Inter Dominion champion Blacks a Fake Natalie Rasmussen who has generously agreed to give up her time to attend the function. Host for the night will be HRNSW CEO Sam Nati who also kindly agreed to attend the function.

A 3 course Buffet meal is available catered for by the clubs famous Billabongs Restaurant which includes many dishes for your pleasure.

Newcastle Maitland Club added another NSW Champion to their clubs impressive list when Samantha Moore aboard Secret Mission was successful in the Shetland Division at Gundagai. After being successful in her 3 heats Samantha soon worked Secret Mission to the lead early in the final and around the 600m Gundagai track despite the efforts of the other drivers they were unable to run Samantha down. The reliable Nightmare driven by Ben Carroll ran a gallant race for second while Brayden Marsh brought the improving Jet home for third. Renae Sherwood at her first championship qualified the reliable Defoe in the field for the final and for a first up effort this was a top effort.
Samantha joins an impressive list of NSW Champions from the Newcastle Maitland Club which include Michelle Neilson (Snippets) Karli Haffey (Rock N Merlyn) Mathew Jackson (Magic Floss) Ricky Potts (Daves Dasher) Todd Moss (Lumberjack Willie) David Jackson (Jingles)
9 Hands and Under division saw the club represented by Magic Floss (Samantha Moore) and Ashleigh Jackson in the final and with both horses running gallant races Inter Dominion Champion Midnight Express added another Group One event to it's record for McKayler Barnes. Magic Floss finished second.
Not to be outdone in the Shetland consolations both Brad Elder (Gransha) and Abbey Morgan (Honey) proved too strong winning their respective events. Well done to you both. Kate Moore (Dream Master) ran a great second to Gransha with Kate picking up more trophies for team Moore. Also in the consolation were Emma Sherwood (Ginjara) and Daniel Morgan (Black Snow) while not successful made the opposition work for their wins and both done themselves proud with their efforts.
Midget section the club was represented by Brad Elder (Little Andy), Connor MacDonald (Your Kiddin Me) and crowd favorite Grace Panella and flashy Paleface Deb. In his consolation Little Andy finished third just in front of Your Kiddin Me then not to outdone in her consolation Grace Panella after taking up the running early in the event ran away in event to win on Paleface Deb.

A huge congratulations to the Newcastle/Maitland Mini Trotting Club who have been successful in attaining hosting rights to the 27th NSW State Championships to be held over the Easter weekend of 2011. Further details for next years event will be made available once venue details are finalised.

WOW! The 26th NSW State Championships at Gundagai was a fantastic weekend for all participants and supporters! Many tired and exhausted children but extremely happy children left Gundagai Showgound on Sunday afternoon with a book full of stories ready to share!

The State Championship heats and finals were all conducted on Saturday.

The Fun Day was conducted on Sunday which was made extra special with the attendance of the Weather crew from Sunrise on course beaming our activities live across Australia! Highlights of the Fun Day included McKayler Barnes and Midnight Express collecting the Rebecca Rutland "Champion of Champions" title and Todd Prest securing two days in the Brian Hancock stables after a great drive on Mystery Nugget in the Retiring Drivers race.

Hats off to the Riverina Club fo their organisation of the weekend and a huge thank you to all who assisted at any time over the event.

The weather produced a glorious day on Sunday at TABCORP Menangle Park for the running of the 2010 Interdominion Finals.

With Australian records being slashed on the huge track throughout the day, no one in attendance could complain about the lack of fine harness racing horses in Australia and New Zealand at the moment. The finishing stages of the Main Interdominion Race were a sight to be seen - and one that people in attendance will remember for many, many years to come!

Prior to the "big" horses taking to the track, NSW Mini Trotting Association had the proud honour of conducting three finals races for mini trotting participants. With capacity fields of fifteen runners in each division the action in these races was always going to be fast and exciting!

First onto the track were the midget runners, the 9 Hands and Under Division. With the field bunched closely at the start, it didn't take long for the runners to find their running line and settle down into racing. Midnight Express, driven by McKayler Barnes, proved the goods on the day and skipped around the outside to quickly round up the field and record a good victory. The fight for second and third placings was extremely close with Ashleigh's Honey (Ashleigh Jackson) marginally hanging to take second ahead of a late comeback from Billy Bye (Todd Prest).

The Shetland Division, for ponies of height from 9.1 hands high to 10.2 hands high, saw Queensland and Victorian Runners in the mix of the New South Wales crew vying for this years title. Defending champion, Paleface Katie from Queensland, driven by seven year old Ethan Manzelmann, showed her true style, coming from the back mark, stepping her way through the entire field to take the lead coming down the home straight. Once in the lead, victory was all Katie's!! Hot on her heels however were fast finishers Nightmare (Ben Carroll) and Secret Mission (Samantha Moore) who fought a close battle to complete the race in second and third places respectively.

The Final Race of the day, and perhaps the most highly anticipated, was the Pony Division, for ponies of height from 10.3 hands high to 13 hands high. With ponies represented from New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria and even New Zealand, the race was set to be a real state showdown! With a few rough starters, some of the backmarkers had a tricky time working through the field to gain a top order position. Once settling into a race pattern the ponies were set for a fantastic finish! Ellen Bartley, from Victoria, aboard Who's Me Dad, came through the field, picking the runners off one by one to skip away in the home straight to record a sound win. As seen in the previous races, the fight for the placings was fierce with three ponies all head to head in those final metres before the finish line. Sabrina (Maddison Carroll) narrowly hung on to secure second place ahead of Negro Dancer (Chris Judd) who placed third in the tightest of margins in front of the fast finishing Lightning Jack (Ben Lamb).

At the completion of the mini trot racing, the drivers took part in a parade on the main track in front of the enormous crowd in attendance. The winners were presented with their rugs and trophies, and the placegetters received their trophies, in a special presentation.

Many thanks must go to HRNSW (particularly Lauren and Amber) for their continued support of mini trotting in NSW, to the NSW Harness Racing Committee for working with the mini trotters on the day, to all the participants and their families/supporters who travelled to attend the day, and to the wonderful crowd at TABCORP Menangle Park who so enthusiastically cheered home the children in all their races!

As the Inter Dominion draws closer at TAB Corp Park this Sunday 7th March we want to remind the competitors that it is your day and enjoy the experience. To help the day run smoothly we have the following schedule you need to be ready for the following times or it may result in you not being able to compete should you not be prepared. It is essential that we are on time as no other time will be available later in the day.

INTER DOMINION UPDATE:

Participnts and their families/supporters attending the Interdominion at TABCORP Menangle Park on SundayMarch 7th 2010 are advised of the following details:

RACING ~
Representatives from NSW Harness Club (Harold Park) have advised NSW Mini Trotting Assn that mini trot Inter Dominion events will be conducted on Sunday 7th March starting with 9 Hands and Under at 11.30 am on the track. 9.1 hands to 10.2 hands will be held at 11.50 am while 10.3 to 13 hands start at 12.15 PM.

ENTRY TO TABCORP~
All competitors with ponies and floats are to enter by gates near senior stables and follow road around to designated mini trot area pass senior stables to parking area down bottom.

Mini trotters will enter track through gates in this region.This area is on the top turn past the winning post and members will be permitted to stay in this area all day to watch the senior Inter Dominion.

NO CARS will be permitted to enter this area if they do not have pony or float. If participating members are arriving in vehicles other than car and float please advise Daryll Jackson (email darylljackson@optusnet.com.au or 0418433979 ) by Tuesday night 23rd February so as passes can be forwarded by NSW Harness Racing Club.

PRESENTATIONS~
Presentations to 3 winning drivers will be conducted throughout the events of the day however other presentation will be held after all clear is given on events.

PASSES~
On the day passes will be allocated should people wish to move to the main race area and move to this area no access is to be made through senior stabling area. Regardless of what mini trot license held by members no mini trot members are to be in senior stabling area.

ASSISTANTS~
To make the day a success a good deal of help is required on the day. If you or your members are able to assist in positions such as judges,track attendants,marshalling,recording,timing,or stewarding please advise as what you can volunteer so as we can fill positions. We can not get too many helpers.

CATERING~
Inner City Club will be assisting in conducting BBQ and refreshments in this area to assist to the competitors going too far and NSW MIni Trotting Assn thank them for this gesture.

BARRIER DRAW AND FIELDS ~
Barrier draw will be conducted at public venue (Maitland Show) and witnessed on Sunday 21st February with the draw on the web page shortly after.

The rain didn't spoil the atmosphere at Harold Park on Friday 12th February 2010 for Inner City Mini Trotting Club members.

Three races were scheduled but due to the rain getting heavier, only two managed to be completed.

In the first event a magificent finish was witnessed with all 11 ponies finishing quite close. The Xuereb brothers, Sean and Nathan, aboard their ponies Little Jon and Smoke Cloud, produced an exciting finish which saw them race head and head all the way to the line, resulting in the winner being declared a dead heat. Little Cheeky with reinswoman Jinaya Niass came home really quick to grab 3rd spot. Not far behind followed Yogi Bear (Sam Xuereb), Elvis (Tanya Farrugia), Dim Sim (Jayden Graham), Fireblaze (Kate McKenzie), our new little pony Santa's Little Helper (Joseph Farrugia), Peko U Rock (Madison Smith) and Nidya (Bryse McElhinney).

Race Two, with the track a little bit heavier from more showers of rain, saw Elvis driven a treat by Tanya Farrugia pass the post first to be declared the winner! Tanya was follwed by Jinaya Niass and Little Cheeky flashing down the straight to be placed 2nd, with Little Jon and Sean Xuereb taking out 3rd place. Next behind them saw Dim Sim (Jayden Graham), Smoke Cloud (Nathan Xuereb), Yogi Bear (Sam Xuereb), Peko U Rock (Madison Smith), Nidya (Kate McKenzie), Fireblaze (Bryse McElhinney),and Santa's little Helper (Joseph Farrugia).

Considering the rain, the kids all had a good time and big smiles whilst getting wet! They are all looking forward to racing at the 10 for 30 night at Harold Park on the 26.02.10.

Under the raindrops, Leeton Club conducted four races at the Leeton trots on Saturday 13th February 2010. The wet conditions continued throughout the day - proving to be quite a novelty for the children in attendance! Some ponies were not in agreement with the rain - putting in a few rough steps whilst dealing with the puddles!

Race One saw Mystery Nugget (Jett Clarke) just hold on in a fierce battle from Sparkey (Charlotte Clarke) to collect first place. Sparkey was second with Turbo (Dylan Smith) trotting nicely to be placed third.

Casket driven by young Zane Lemon trotted a treat in Race Two, skipping away from the field to record a well deserved victory ahead of the consistent ponies Gold Star (Ryan Pitt) and Sabrina (Maddison Carroll).

Race Three was a close finish with Leeton local Laura Diebert sneaking her nice stepping pony, Eagle Flyer, through the runners to score a win. Laura just pipped Turbo (Dylan Smith) on the line and Mystery Nugget (Jett Clarke) narrowly slipped into third only marginally ahead of Nightmare (Ben Carroll).

After a bumpy start to the day, Brooke Harris drove Sir Spencer to perfection in Race Four, recording a sound first place. Lightning Jack (Ben Lamb) showed his best behaviour and was close behind for second place whilst Todd Prest guided Billy Bye home for third.

Leeton congratulate their members who have qualified for the Interdominion on March 7th - namely Alanah Pitt driving Gold Star and Lightning Jim and Todd Prest driving Billy Bye. We wish them, and all participants at this special event, all the best of luck - Leeton Club will definitely have a large contingent of mini trotting fans their to cheer you all on!!!

Leeton now have a break from racing with the next Leeton meet scheduled for Saturday April 10th 2010. Some trial days will be scheduled in anticipation for the upcoming Championships and Leeton members will be notified once details are confirmed.

Bathurst Mini Trotting Club raced on December 23rd which was their Christmas Meeting. They all had great fun and Santa even came to the kids on a mini trotter (Thor Tooth).

There were lollies for all the children in attendance and special chocolates & Santa hats for the mini trotting kids!!

Race One saw the Connor Slattery- Black Storm combination take home the first place prize ahead of Studleigh Slim (Jock Davis) and Running Like A Cheetah (Maddison Muller). Georgie Betts driving Spinnaker recorded a sound win in Race Two coming across the line just in front of Little Miss Sunshine (Claudia Osborne) and Emma's Glory (Maggie Betts). The Slattery boys were on fire with Brydon steering Black Thunder to victory in Race Three with Lightning Strike (Maddison Slattery) and Running Like A Cheetah (Maddison Muller) completing the placings. The last race of the night saw Georgie pick up her seond win for the night, again partnering Spinnaker to victory, Georgie was closely followed home by Emma's Glory (Maggie) and Little Miss Sunshine (Claudia).

The clubs next big night was the Carnival of Cups on 28th December 2009.
It was an exciting night of racing not only for the big horses but also for all the mini trotters. Some very tight finishes and excellent mini trotting was witness by the huge crowd attending the night. The kids all received a bag of lollies plus a Carnival of Cups hat which they loved.

It was a fantastic night of racing for the Betts family - taking home victory in all four races!! Jed Betts steered Red Terror around the Bathurst track to record a well earned win ahead of Studleigh Slim (Jock Davis) and Black Storm (Connor Slattery) in Race One. It was sister Maggie's turn in Race Two, aboard Thistlebeatya Maggie skipped away from the field to take line honours with Little Miss Sunshine (Claudia Osborne) and Thor Tooth (Andrew Donnelly) completing the placings. Jed had Red Terror roaring in Race Three, collecting a double for the night, with Studleigh Slim (Jock Davis) and Run Like A Cheetah (Maddison Muller) slipping past the post for second and third respectively. Phoebe Betts drove Painted Lady an absolute treat in the last on the card to get the judges nod for first place with Maggie finishing second driving Thistlebeatya and Claudia finishing third driving Little Miss Sunshine.

The club also ran a raffle on this night of white goods supplied by Jed Rumbel The Good Guys, which was a huge success.

The club then raced at Blayney on 30 January 2010 in conjunction with the first ever Yirribee Stud Western Reinswomens Championship. This was a great picnic day and some of the kids where dressed in their favourite lady's driver colours. Maddison Muller and Claudia Osborne won the best dressed competition in Emma Turnbull's colours.

Bathurst will next will race an exciting meeting at the Royal Bathurst Show on Friday 5 March and also at the Gold Crown Carnival - Lady's night on 24 March 2010.

A huge thank you all drivers/ponies that nominated to participate in the 2010 Inter Dominion Series for Mini Trotters. A total of 93 nominations were received in total from 4 of the Australian States and also New Zealand.

Inner City Mini Trotting Club held there 1st meeting for the year at Tabcorp Park Menangle. They conducted 2 races for the evening with a total of 11 ponies in attendance. Due to weather we could not hold the 3rd race. All ponies competed in both races.

Smoke Cloud, with reinsmen Nathan Xuereb aboard, took out the 1st race to be held under lights at Menangle, whilst his older brother Sean Xuereb, driving Little Jon was a length behind slotting in to 2nd place. Tanya Farrugia aboard her pony, Elvis, followed in for 3rd place. Not far behind them came Dim Sim with reinsmen Jayden Graham, St Vinni with Flo Odri, Nidia with Kate McKenzie, Little Cheeky with Jinaya Niass, Yogi Bear with Sam Xuereb, Fireblaze with Bryse McElhinney, Peko U Rock with little Madison Smith and last of all Little Tramp with driver Steve Farrugia.

The second race on the card was won by Peko U Rock which is driven by one of the club's youngest drivers, Madison Smith. Jayden Graham done a wonderful drive to bring his pony Dim Sim into 2nd position and Nidia with Kate McKenzie finished in 3rd. Following the placegetters came St Vinni with Flo Odri from Nowra, Little Tramp (Steve Farrugia), Yogi Bear (Jinaya Niass), Fireblaze (Bryse McElhinney), Little Jon (Sean Xuereb), Smoke Cloud (Nathan Xuereb), and last of all was Elvis with Tanya Farrugia who just did not want to take off at the start.

Even though a little rain caused the cancellation of race three, the spirits of members could not be dampened and all members had a wonderful night! Definately being an experience to remember!

Newcastle Maitland Club conducted a Gala Day at Maitland Showground Sunday 31st January with a total of 24 horses nominating for the day. Over night storms and rain early in the morning, which saw a couple of scratchings, cast doubt over the day however come race time the track was in good condition considering the amount of rain that had fell.

Feature event for the day was conducting the qualifying events for opportunity for our members to represent the club at the upcoming Inter Domionion at TAB Corp Menangle Park on Sunday 6th March
In the 9 hands and under division three ponies singled out with Little Andy (Brad Elder), Ashleighs Honey (Ashleigh Jackson) and Little Romeo (Tori Hancock) settling down to fight out the finish. Little Andy found the pace a little to hot in the home straight and it was Ashleigh and Tori head and head all the way in the straight. As the winning post loomed up it was Tori and Little Romeo just defeating the Ashleigh Jackson driven Ashleighs Honey. Third was Little Andy for Brad and Chevy Rocks running one of his best races for Alana Behner
In the 9.1 to 10.2 hands big fields lined up and when the starter said go Samantha Moore quickly brought Secret Mission through the field to dominate the event from a gallant Defoe well driven by Renae Sherwood and Gransha who did not have the best of runs finishing third for Bradley Elder. Other ponies to race well up to their best form were Jacko (Alec Butterfield), Silver Star (Matthew Grant), Honey (Abbey Morgan) and the improving Ginjara for Emma Sherwood.
10.3 to 13 hands saw the combination of Fred Underwood aboard Diamond Prince give a good display to defeat Fabian driven by Jackson McDonald who failed to produce the form of the past few weeks. Fred was quick to make a early break and was untroubled to take out the event.
Other placed horses on the day included Kate Moore on Dream Master, Alana Behner on the little rocket Chevy Rocks, and Roger driven by Dan Morgan, Jacko Alec Butterfield and Mad Sassy owned and trained by Madelene Bond.
Some eye catching runs on the day were noticed by a number of ponies who may be in the winners circle soon. These included Black Snow (Madelene Hanson) and one horse that was just starting putting in all together at the end of the day was the Aleisha Bond Trained Belle. Watch these ponies.

Tamworth members were back in the gig on January 21st and 22nd, completing a busy schedule for the club in recent weeks.

The club were thrilled to welcome visiting driver, Nathan Xuereb, from the Inner City Club who made the journey to Tamworth with his grandfather, Charlie Mercieca. From all reports Nathan fitted into their club perfectly with his polite and humble nature and the club would be overjoyed to have him compete with them in the future! Nathan competed with his always competitive pony, Smoke Cloud, who enjoyed good success in his racing on January 21st. The club were in awe to witness the striking pony go around, displaying the speed and agility it does.

Two races were completed on both racing days. On January 21st the first race, the TD's Paint Place Mini Trot, was won in convincing style by Smoke Cloud (Nathan) with White Lightning (Matthew Letton) and Joycie May (Courtney Sutherland) completing the placings. Race Two, the Smitty's Tyres and More Cup, saw young Matthew Letton go one better with White Lightning to record a steady victory ahead of the consistant Joycie May (Courtney) and Racing Ruby (Braith Nock).

Race One on January 22nd, the TD's Paint Place Cup, saw Rory Brown drive pony, Kristy Lee, around the track to perfection to record a well-timed win. Hot on Rory's heels was Joycie May (Courtney) and My First Star (Scotty Brown) following in for the placings. The final race to cap of the two days of racing was the Chrissy's Race Day Supplies Mini Trot. Racing Ruby was guided through the field by driver Braith Nock to be first past the post ahead of My First Star (Scotty Brown) and Joycie May (Courtney Sutherland). Slotting into fourth position was Snowballs Chance (Tom Ison) who was followed then by Class Act (Codey Glasby), Pippyarta (Emma Ison), Sweet Little Benji (Elly Chapple), Kristy Lee (Rory Brown) and Smoke Cloud (Nathan Xuereb).

It has been a busy time for the Carnival of Cups Circuit in the Riverina region, with Junee hosting their meet on Australia Day. Again, Riverina Mini Trotting Club enjoyed a fantastic turn up of ponies across all divisions and completed five races on the night.

The children enjoyed a great night of racing and had a huge amount of vocal support from the big crowd in attendance. All competitors are praised for their horsemanship and efforts in producing some wonderful mini trotting races. Well done!!

2010 kicked off in a busy fashion for participants at the Leeton trots on New Years Day! Leeton Club conducted four races at their Carnival of Cups meeting, the towns biggest meet of the season. The night was finals night capping off the annual carnival which saw racing completed over three nights between Christmas and New Year. Leeton Mini Trotting enjoyed fantastic numbers of ponies each night of the Carnival, with an average of 21 ponies in attendance each night.

From the childrens first race of the night the crowd were very enthusiastic and encouraging. With a few drives under her belt and confidence increasing, Leeton's Charlotte Clarke steered her glittered up pony, Sparkey, home to collect first place with Murrami Magic (Peter McRae) picking up second place and the new combination of Cee Wilson driven by Sebastian Piltz completing a tidy race to finish in third position. Little Midget (Makayla Carroll) followed close behind to slot into fourth.

The second discretionary race saw improving local pony, Duracell, guided home in expert style by Esther Deeves to be first past the post. Not far behind came Sabrina (Madison Carroll), Turbo (Dylan Smith) and Black Babe (Joe Carroll) who completed the placings.

Attention then turned to the Annual Carnival of Cups races. All ponies had been timed each of their races over the three nights of racing, from this their fastest time was used to determine MPS handicaps for each of the Cup races.
Trophies for both events were kindly supplied by HRNSW and it was a great honour for both the children and the club to have HRNSW representatives on board to present the children with their trophies on the track at the completion of both races.

Chris Edwards, Country Representative on the HRNSW Board, spoke highly of the children and mini trotting in general at the conclusion of the first Cup race. The race was a great exhibition of mini trotting at it's best with an extremely close finish resulting in lots of excited cheers and encouragement. With a smile lighting up the track, Charlotte Clarke, proved the goods amongst the field and guided Sparkey home to record a good win. In the tightest of margins, Cinderella driven by Siarne Deeves, was awarded the second place trophy and Murrami Magic (Peter McRae) the third. Behind the podium crew the field was bunched up with a matter of metres covering first to last position, Casket (Zane Lemon) slotted into fourth place to be followed by Itty Bitty (Ben Lamb), Eagle Flyer (Laura Diebert), Mystery Nugget (Jett Clarke), Cee Wilson (Sebastian Piltz) and Little Midget (Makayla Carroll).

Les Bentley, NSW TAB Clubs Representative on the HRNSW Board, had great pleasure in presenting trophies to the winners in the second Cup race of the evening. Again, a super close finish was the order of the night and produced a top notch first time win for yet another new driver, Clara Gadd from Yanco. Clara drove new pony, Lightning Jim, to perfection to take out line honours just ahead of Billy Bye (Todd Prest) and Negro Dancer (Chris Judd) who collected second and third placings respectively. Sabrina finished quickly to slot into fourth and was then followed by Viduka (Darcy Cochrane), Nanna Smoke (Hannah Pitt), Nightmare (Ben Carroll), Gold Star (Alannah Pitt), Lightning Jack (Ben Lamb), Black Babe (Joe Carroll), Duracell (Esther Deeves) and Turbo (Dylan Smith).

The club backed up a week later to race again at a regular Leeton trot meet and is now looking forward to racing on Saturday, February 13th - this will be a great preparation for local ponies looking to attend the upcoming Interdom and Championship meets. While local clubs are busy conducting qualifiing event for their members to attend 2010 Inter Dominion interest has come from New Zealand in bringing over a pony. Kristeen Kullen a 12.1 hand pony has taken all feature event it has paticipated in the Shaky Isles and connections are seriously considering our event. Michael Blakemore is the driver of Kristeen Kullen who recently won a local feature event starting 1150m behind rounding up the field to win in good style.

Riverina Club have confirmed a few that most of the Sponsorship arrangements are now in place for the NSW Championships which their club will be hosting at Gundagai this upcoming Easter.

Nomination forms will be sent out to members towards the end of February.

Anyone who attended the 2005 Championships (which the club hosted at Gundagai) are already lining up to attend the venue again. Facilities are in place that cater for 150 ponies and the Showground boasts a 600 metre track - just made for mini trotting!!!

Start planning now for a super weekend of great mini trotting, great atmosphere and some great friendhips to be made!! See you there!!!

January is always a busy time in Tamworth, and this has proved no different to our mini trotting drivers in the area. They have been out on the track in great style, showing some big crowds exactly how great our sport is!

January 15th saw eight ponies contest two races during the days proceedings. Race One, the Everything Equine Mini Trot, saw Courtney Sutherland produce a fantastic win aboard her pony, Joycie May, with Snowballs Chance (Tom Ison) and Racing Ruby (Braith Nock) finishing close behind to collect the place prizes!

Tom Ison went one better in the second race, the PMC Photography Trot, steering Snowballs Chance home to victory! Hot on his heels were White Lightning (Matthew Letton) and Racing Ruby (Braith Nock) who slotted in to complete the placings!

Tamworth Club has been busy racing over the past few days, keep an eye on the website for updates and results. The Club have been looking extremely forward to hosting some visitors for these meets and really hopes that these drivers have a most enjoyable time whilst in Tamworth.

Racing at Tamworth now slows down a little with the resumption of school, however the club will be looking to get the ponies to the track whenever possible as the children are having a ball and the ponies seem to be making great friendships amongst themselves too- they greet each other on race day with whinneys and grunts as though they are long lost friends!!! Gotta love these mini trotters……..

Racing at Tamworth on 13th December 2009 saw two races conducted at the conclusion of the busy TAB meet. Race One, The PMC Photography Mini Trot, saw Rory Brown's good luck aboard Kristy Lee, continue to record a good victory ahead of Sweet Little Benji (Elly Chapple) and Pippyarta (Emma Ison) who followed close behind for second and third. In Race Two, the PMC Mini Trot, young Elly Chapple pushed Sweet Little Benji that little bit further and collected first place honours ahead of Pippyarta (Emma Ison) and Darth Vader (Ben Ison) who completed the placings.

The Club returned to their home track on December 27th to again conduct two races. The first on the card, the KFL Technologies Mini Trot, saw mid-starter My First Star (Scotty Brown) skip away from the field to earn first place with Class Act (Codey Glasby) and Joycie May(Courtney Sutherland) slotting in for second and third places.
Race Two, the Hazells Farm and Fertilizer Mini Trot, witnessed Elly Chapple guide Sweet Little Benji to victory ahead of Pippyarta (Emma Ison) and My First Star (Scotty Brown).

December 31st, last day of the year, again saw some wonderful mini trotting action at the Tamworth track. Eight ponies and drivers in attendance all had a fun time and some excellent racing was in store! Rory Brown was back in the winners circle, steering Kristy Lee to record a fantastic win with Joycie May (Courtney Sutherland) and My First Star (Scotty Brown) trotting close behind to collect the place prizes. Race Two of the night, the Happy New Year Mini Trot, again saw witness to the fabulous skills of our junior drivers. Class Act proved it's name all the way and recorded a steady win for driver Codey Glasby - a brilliant way to finish of 2009! My First Star (Scotty Brown) and Snowballs Chance (Tom Ison) finished in second and third positions.

Riverina Club conducted their first meeting of the season at the Temora track on Saturday, 16th January, with 35 ponies facing the starter for the prestigious Temora Carnival of Cups meeting.

The 3 cup races were run under the MPS time handicap system and because of this HRNSW supplied the trophies for these races.

The Tamworth minis have had a very busy November /December with racing on the 22nd November at Tamworth, then a trip to Inverell for 3 races on the 29th followed by racing the next week at Narrabri on the 5th December.

At the Tamworth meet on November 22nd, Rory Brown collected a double steering pony, Kristy Lee, to victory on both occassions! What an achievement! Well done Rory! Other placegetters for the day included Pippyarta (Emma Ison), Sweet Little Benji (Ellie Chapple), Darth Vader (Ben Ison) and White Lightning (Matthew Letton).

The three races at Inverell saw wins posted by Rory Brown driving Kristy Lee, Darth Vader driven by Ben Ison and Class Act driven by Codey Glasby. Placings for the day were awarded to Pippyarta (Emma Ison), Sweet Little Benji (Ellie Chapple), My First Star (Scotty Brown), Snowballs Chance (Tom Ison) and Joycie May (Courtney Sutherland). White Lightning driven by Matthew Letton was awarded the best presented pony of the day.

Mini trotting at Narrabri on December 5th was a highlight of the days programming with the crowd really enjoying watching the ponies go around. Snowballs Chance (Tom Ison) and Darth Vader (Ben Ison) both collected victories whilst the placings went to Joycie May (Courtney Sutherland), My First Star (Scotty Brown) and Class Act (Codey Glasby).

NSW Mini Trotting Association is this year hosting the 2010 Mini Trot Inter Dominion to be held at Menangle TAB Corp Park on Sunday 7th March 2010.
This years Mini Trot Inter Dominions will be conducted as a one off race by NSW Mini Trotting Association under the Height Handicap formula. Field sizes to be 15 ponies in each of the 3 height classes: 9 hands and Under (A), 9.1 hands to 10.2 hands (B) and 10.3 hands to 13 hands ( C ).

The Height Handicap formula works as follows:
(A) 9 hands horses will start on 600 metre mark with horses moving forward 10 metres each inch they are under 9 hands.
(B) 9.1 hands will start on the 600 mark moving back 10 metres for each inch until the 10.2 mark
(C) 10.3 hands will start from the 800 metre mark moving back 10 metres for each inch in height until the13 hands mark.
Winners of past NSW Championships, Inter Dominions or "Group One" events will be penalized a further 10 metres for each win.

All races will be conducted in accordance with the official "NSW Mini Trotting Association Inc. Rules and Regulations".

Other Australian states and New Zealand are invited to nominate one horse to represent their association in each division.

All NSW affiliated clubs are entitled to nominate one club member (and their horse) for each division however each nomination must meet a minimum MPS as outlined in the correspondence sent to all club secretaries.

ALL nominations must come through your Club/State Secretary - not direct to NSW Mini Trotting - NOW is the time to contact your Club Secretary for details on qualification and official rulings. Please do not wait until nominations have closed or it will be too late!!

Nominations must be forwarded to the NSW State Secretary, Daryll Jackson, and close on Friday, 5th February, 2010. Invitations will be forwarded to all successful nominees approximately 7- 10 days from the closing date.

Please contact your Club Secretary for any further information regarding the 2010 Interdominion.

Inner City back in 2010 will be racing for the FIRST time under lights at Menangle Park on Friday 29th January.

The Club has been looking forward to this for a very long time.

The Riverina club conducted four races at the Young Carnival of Cups on Sunday 3rd January 2010.

The first shetland race was taken out approxmiately 30m by Popcorn with Chelsea Walker recording one of her first wins.Pilgrim came home well for Natalya Pellow to take out second place and Hiltop Freddy with Blake Micallef returned in third position.

The first Pony race was taken out by Lightning Jack recording a good win for Ben Lamb, second was the stable mate Casket driven by young Zane Lemon and third was Negro Dancer driven by Chris Judd.


The shetland Young Carnival of Cups was decided by Joel Fowler's camera in a three way finish across the line, but it was Bubba for Tegan Judd beating Itty Bitty driven by Ben Lamb and Popcorn driven by Chelsea Walker wrapped in third but only losing by a head.


The Pony Young Carnival of Cups was taken out by Butterscotch with Patrick Walker having a one off drive as the pony is usually driven by Tristan Field, second was Lightning Jack for Ben Lamb and Casket, having a good night, taking out third place.

The night was a great night and all the kids recieved free ice-creams from Trevs Tasty Treats and they also recieved a ribbon with the place getters from the cups getting a trophy donated by NSWHRC.

Leeton Club hosted a great night of mini trotting action on Boxing Night being the first night of racing for the Annual Breeders Plate/Christmas Carnival for 2009. With a large and vocal crowd encouraging the mini trotters all the way past the winning post, some brilliant racing was witnessed.

Four races were contested during the program, all four were combined races raced on the ponies MPS handicap. This timing system has worked well at Leeton for many years and produces fair and close finishes for all participants.

The Leeton Harness Racing Club Trot was the first race on the card. A feature of this race was Charlotte Clarke having her first ever drive at a registered meet. Charlotte has driven at many fun/gala days and was very excited to take the track with her precious pony, Sparkey! This race saw Ben Lamb skip away from the field to record a steady victory aboard Itty Bitty. Little Midget (Makayla Carroll) and Black Babe (Joe Carroll) completed the placings for this race.

Race Two was the Leeton Soldiers Club Trot, again producing some hard and fast racing with the ponies and drivers obviously enjoying the cooler conditions of the evening. Leeton local, Dylan Smith driving Turbo, got the judges nod marginally ahead of the extremely fast finishing Lightning Jack (Ben Lamb). It was the sight of the night to see Turbo's little legs racing quickly aside the high stepping Lightning Jack! Nanna Smoke (Hannah Pitt) was close behind the two front runners to collect the third place.

After some initial gear changes, Gold Star done a good job in rounding up the field in Race Three, the Yanco All Servicemans Trot, to bring home the bacon for experienced driver, Alanah Pitt. Eagle Flyer (Laura Diebert) and Sabrina (Maddison Carroll) were hot on her heels to pick up second and third places respectively.

The last of the night, the Leeton Vet Hospital Trot, was a fantastic finish to a great nights racing! After finishing just outside the placings in his first two starts for the night, Jett Clarke guided Mystery Nugget to the lead and trotted home nicely to record a convincing win ahead of Nightmare (Ben Carroll) and Gold Star (Alanah Pitt).

At the end of the evening all children received their prize money with Esther Deeves and Charlotte Clarke both being awarded the nights Encouragement Awards.

The Penrith & Nepean Mini Trotting Club held their last race meet on Thursday 17th December 2009 for this calander year. The club held three races that evening, and all competitors enjoyed themselves.

The Big Man in Red made an appearance after race five and so did Mrs Claus. They will continue to watch all the mini trotting drivers throughout the year and hope that the ponies are also rewarded at Chirstmas time.

Leeton Mini Trotting Club will be conducting mini trotting events at the Leeton Breeders Plate/Christmas Carnival in 2009.

The carnival is raced across three nights: Boxing Night Saturday 26th December, Monday 28th December and New Years Day Friday January 1st 2010.

All mini trotting participants are invited to attend any of the nights racing over the Carnival. Nominations close 8pm the evening prior, however it would be appreciated if members could nominate their intention asap (particularly for New Years Day as this is a Carnival of Cups meeting and our mini trotters will be involved in other areas on this night also). Another top night of racing at Harold Park was held on Friday 27th November 2009, with three races conducted by the Inner City Mini Trotting Club.

Race One saw Yogi Bear, with Sam Xuereb driving, taking a well deserved win. In 2nd place followed Smoke Cloud (Nathan Xuereb) and 3rd place Dim Sim (Jayden Graham). Following the placegetters were Little Jon (Sean Xuereb), Fireblaze (Bryse McElhinney), Nidia (Kate McKenzie), Elvis (Tanya Farrugia) and Luna Express (Grant Ellul).

Race Two was won by Elvis driven by Tanya Farrugia, next into position was Smoke Cloud (Nathan Xuereb) and 3rd place, being too hard for the judges to split, was declared a dead heat between Dim Sim (Jayden Graham)and Yogi Bear (Sam Xuereb). Following closely behind the field in next position was Luna Express (Grant Ellul), Little Jon (Sean Xuereb), Fireblaze (Bryse McElhinney) and Nidia (Kate McKenzie).

Race Three saw visiting Penrith Club pony,Luna Express, driven by Grant Ellul, stride home to take out 1st position. 2nd position was Elvis (Tanya Farrugia) and 3rd was Smoke Cloud (Nathan Xuereb). Little Jon (Sean Xuereb), Yogi Bear (Sam Xuereb), Nidia (Kate McKenzie), Dim Sim (Jayden Graham) and little Fireblaze (Bryse McElhinney)all followed behind.

A big congratulations to Kate McKenzie and her pony Nidia for winning the Fred Hastings lucky pick of the draw which saw her win a bag of feed.

All the children are to be congratulated for being such wonderful participants!!!!! WELL DONE!!!!!!

26th NSW MINI TROTTING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Gundagai Showground has been confirmed as the venue for the 26th NSW Mini Trotting Championships to be conducted by the Riverina Mini Trotting Club over the 2010 Easter weekend (Easter Saturday - 3rd April 2010 and Easter Sunday - 4th April 2010).

The annual event is a highlight of the mini trotting season, attracting participants and their families from not only NSW but right across the nation. The weekend consists of State Championship Racing on Easter Saturday and then a Fun Day on Easter Sunday. This is always a family focused time that sees many friendships made and renewed year after year.

INNER CITY MINI TROTTING CLUB had a great night of racing at Harold Park on Friday 13th November. They conducted 3 races with all ponies in attendance starting in all 3!

1st race saw Steve Farrugia on Little Tramp coming in 1st place. 2nd place was Elvis with Tanya Farrugia followed by our new pony Crumbs and Crackers driven by Madisyn Young doing really well for the ponies 1st start under lights coming in 3rd place. The next place getters were Dim Sim (Jayden Graham), Good Golly Miss Molly (Gemma Coney), Little Cheeky (Jinaya Niass), Wild About Harry ( Georgia Young) Fireblaze (Bryse MElhinney) followed by Running Bear (Kate McKenzie).

2nd race saw Little Cheeky with Jinaya Niass bolting in to take out 1st place. Fair distance behind was Wild About Harry with Georgia Young in 2nd and then Elvis with Tanya Farrugia in 3rd place. Following not far behind them was Dim Sim,Good Golly Miss Molly, Fireblaze, Little Tramp, Crumbs and Crackers and finally after a change of driver Luke Farrugia with Running Bear was at the tail end.

3rd race after another driver change saw Jayden Graham with Running Bear winning the last of the night after the poor pony coming in at the tail end in the last 2 races. 2nd place was Good Golly Miss Molly with Gemma Coney and 3rd was Fireblaze with Bryse McElhinney. 4th was Wild About Harry with reinsman Georgia Young. 5th was Dim Sim driven by Kate McKenzie. 6th was Little Tramp driven by Steve Farrugia. Crumbs n Crackers with Madisyn Young coming in 7th, then we had Tanya Farrugia with Elvis in 8th place and poor Cheeky with Jinaya being put to last place as she cantered over the line.

With Newcastle Harness Club conducting their biggest event on their calendar next week, the Newcastle Invitation Mile, members of the Newcastle Maitland Mini Trot Association were putting the final touches to their ponies in preparation for next weeks Mini Half Mile.
Conditions on the night were not good with showers threatening and eventually an early night had to be called with the rain more frequent and heavy but not before three events were conducted.
Star performer on the night was Connor MacDonald aboard You're Kiddin Me despite being re handicapped twice, proving unstoppable on the night (How many winners did Phil Get)
Paleface Deb well driven by Grace Panella once again showed good improvement to be in the placings along with front marker Rodger for Dan Morgan and back marker Secret Mission for Samantha Moore also figuring in the placings in a good display to show a win is not far away. Stable mate Dream Master for sister Kate Moore also was placed on the night, a win for this combination would not surprise.
Last years half mile winner Ashleigh's Honey was right behind the place getters improving each start and trainer Ashleigh Jackson could be doing a Bart Cummings having her pony at peak condition come BIG Race time.
Another big race specialist Black Snow recent winner of the Anniversary Cup and will be given every opportunity by her driver to Madelene Hanson to repeat her good win.
Two other ponies on the night while not at their best could show that a week in mini trot is a long time and will be looking at turning the form of Honey (Abbey Morgan) and Fabian (Jackson Mc Donald) around in the week.
Other commitments prevented some of our other members attending this week and I am sure they all will also have their ponies ready to run big races and good luck to all.

Sunday saw a qualifying day for potential new members and ponies. Alec Butterfield has taken over the preparation of Jacko (formerly with retired Sarah Hall) and will now be mixing it in the mini trot ranks soon.
Noah Frazer with his pony Ice Cream was the star on the day with three wins. This was a great effort by Noah and if you continue the way you went today Noah, we will be seeing you driving race nights soon. Keep going the way you are, well done.
As mentioned earlier, members were putting the final touches to their ponies for next week and it was noticed that Jackson McDonald and his pony Fabian were at the qualifying day with the combination showing improvement on the previous night. Look out for this pair next week. Another two drivers Daniel Morgan and Ashleigh Jackson assisted in the qualifying day and thank you both for your help.

Inner City Mini Trotting Club conducted races at Harold Park on 30/10/09. 3 races were challenged over the course of the night. A fun night was had by all with the added bonus of all driver receiving a free bbq dinner and drinks.

In the 1st race there were 5 ponies in, with Little Cheeky driven by Jinaya Niass coming in 1st place. 2nd place was Dim Sim driven by Jayden Graham and 3rd place was Fireblaze driven by Bryse McElhinney. Little Tramp (Steve Farrugia) coming in 4th and Yogi Bear (Sam Xuereb) 5th place.

2nd race also had 5 ponies with Running bear, driven by Katelyn McKenzie coming in 1st place then Smoke Cloud dashing down the straight with Nathan Xuereb in 2nd place, Little Jon with Sean Xuereb also making ground in 3rd place, followed by Jamaicanmecrazy driven by Sam Xuereb in 4th and Elvis with Tanya Farrugia coming in 5th place.

The last race was an all in race with Smoke Cloud Nathan Xuereb 1st, Little Jon driven by Sean Xuereb 2nd, Yogi bear Sam Xuereb 3rd yet again - another Xuereb triffecta! 4th place was Fireblaze (Kate McKenzie), Little Cheeky (Jinaya Niass), Elvis (Tanya Farrugia), Little Tramp (Steve Farrugia) and followed by Dim Sim (Jayden Graham).

Bathurst Club had the proud honour of kicking off the Carnival of Cups racing for mini trotting at the Eugowra meet held in early October.

The club had a good representation of ponies and drivers attend what was described by Club Secretary Marianne Donnelly as "a fantastic day out"!

Just recently, the Bathurst Mini Trotting Club held their Annual Presentation Night, celebrating their successes of season 2008/2009.

A lovely meal was provided by Gary and Judy Williams for all to enjoy then the night continued on with the formal proceedings.

Major awards included the Champion Mini Trotters for each division which for this season went to Pacific Princess (Nine Hands and Under), Thor Tooth (Shetland) and Painted Lady (Pony).

Andrew Donnelly collected the prestigious Gold Drivers Award, Rachel Bermingham and Maggie Betts tied for the Silver Driver, and Connor Slattery picked up the Bronze Driver of the Season.

Claudia Osborne was awarded the Good Sportsmanship Shield and Rachel Bermingham was presented with the Coming of Age Award. Encouragement Awards were handed out to Jack Betts, Jed Betts, Georgie Betts, Phoebe Betts, Dyllon Slattery, Brydon Slattery, Maddison Slattery, Mitchell Turnbull and Claudia Osbourne.

Following all the formalities, the night kicked into fun gear and all the families were thoroughly entertained with some great tunes belted out on the karaoke machine. A super night was had by all!

Saturday 24th October saw the running of two trophy events at Newcastle Paceway. Newcastle/Maitland Club conducted the running of the Keith Robb Memorial in honour of the great grandfather of past members the Moss Family sponsored by his daughter Yvonne and the running of the Spring Cup.
Spring Cup saw James Harding aboard Mr Reilly win their biggest race to date coming with a late burst to just beat the ever improving Ginjara for newcomer Emma Sherwood and Tamworth visitor Rory Brown bringing Kristy Lee home for third. Close up behind were Connor MacDonald (You're Kiddin Me) and early pacemaker Rodger (Daniel Morgan) tiring in the long Newcastle straight just failing to hold on.
The Keith Robb Memorial saw a return to form for Secret Mission well driven by Samantha Moore who despite starting from well back in the field never left the fence taking the short way home to save valuable ground. Consistent Ashleigh's Honey ran a creditable second for Ashleigh Jackson with one of the front markers Honey holding on well for third driven a well judged race by Abbey Morgan. Sydneysider Smoke Cloud despite his huge handicap was most impressive finishing right behind the place getters and Nathan Xeureb has shown that this combination will be a big threat in upcoming weeks.
Early events on the programme had success to Jamaican Me Crazy for Sam Xeureb defeating the fast improving Little Romeo driven a good race by Tori Hancock and Tamworth pony Kristy Lee (Rory Brown) rounding out the placings. Ginjara continues it's impressive form for Emma Sherwood to finish not far away in fourth.
In the other early event on the card Kate Moore with a well timed run on Dream Master was successful defeating Ashleigh's Honey (Ashleigh Jackson) and older sister Samantha and her pony Secret Mission. Dream Master has shown steady improvement over recent weeks and now that the combination has broke through for a win there may be no stopping them now. Last weeks big race winner Defoe finished a gallant fourth for Renae Sherwood and more success for these two is not far away.
A free for all rounded out the nights racing and when the winning post loomed up three ponies hit the line locked together with no one really knowing the result until the judges posted number two Paleface Deb down the outside of the track for Grace Panella just in front of Rodger (Daniel Morgan) and Madelene Hanson bringing Black Snow hard along the inside just to miss out and finish third. Right behind was Connor MacDonald looking for a run on You're Kiddin Me and stablemates Ginjara and Defoe for twins Emma and Renae Sherwood making quick ground on the leaders.
Racing continues next week with another night programmed for Newcastle Paceway

Newcastle Harness Club celebrated 20 years at the Newcastle Paceway Saturday night and Newcastle Maitland Mini Trot Assoc has been a part of the entertainment for all these years and helped the club celebrate their mile stone with the minis running an Anniversary Cup. Due to strong nominations two cups were run to see all members participated in the events.
Black Snow driven by Madelene Hanson took out one division of the Anniversary Cup bringing Black Snow right up the inside to defeat Tori Hancock aboard a gallant Little Romeo with Rodger (Daniel Morgan) leading well into the straight holding on for third just in front of the improving Paleface Deb. Early pacemaker Chevy Rocks with Alana Behner aboard gave a bold display. Brad Elder (Little Andy ) and Lily Hosking on Roxy Surf Girl both indicated wins are not far away for their ponies with promising runs.
Defoe burst out the pack late in the running of the other Anniversary Cup to give newcomer Renae Sherwood her biggest win to date to grab the consistent Belle driven by Aleisha Bond with reliable Ashleigh's Honey for trainer driver Ashleigh Jackson a good third. Back marker Secret Mission (Samantha Moore) along with Mathew Grant on Silver Star and Dream Master (Kate Moore) were also not that far away in a busy finish.
Early event on the night saw success to Paleface Deb for one of our new members Grace Panella a good reward for Grace with Paleface Deb showing improvement each week, well done. Placing in this event went to stalemates Rodger and Honey for team Morgan driver's Daniel and Abbey. Another new member to the club Emma Sherwood has also improved her pony Ginjara each outing and watch out for this combination to be successful soon.
The other event on the night saw two consistent ponies Belle (Aleisha Bond) and Ashleigh's Honey (Ashleigh Jackson) fight out the finish with Belle just too strong. Two ponies Mad Sassy (Madelene Bond) and Fabian (Jackson MacDonald) run their races in patches showing glimpses of form and if they put their best foot forward both will be hard to beat soon.
Finally congratulations to the Newcastle Harness on their achievement and thanks to the committee for their continued support of mini trotting at their meetings.


 Second but happy Aleisha Bond

A bleak night at Newcastle Paceway saw a number of members deciding home was the best place to be, however seven brave drivers and ponies ventured to Newcastle for another good night out.
Samantha Moore aboard Secret Mission never felt the cold air with a winning double who along with stablemate Dream Master (Kate Moore) winning all 3 races between them. Team Morgan runners Black Snow and Honey for Daniel and Abbey showed they are back to their best and will prove threats in coming weeks. Ashleigh's Honey for owner driver Ashleigh Jackson may be carrying a little too much weight, however with racing, will soon be back to her best. Lily Hosking with Roxy Surf Girl are starting to work up a good combination with a consistant night and Grace Panella and Paleface Deb are improving with each outing and success is on the way for Grace and Deb.

Newcastle Maitland Club after a number of trial dates conducted it's first race meeting at Newcastle Paceway for the season.
14 ponies attended our meeting with the old faces joined by our new members Grace Panella and twins Renae and Emma Sherwood. The crowd at the trots were in good voice to welcome the ponies back cheering for their favourite combination.
Winner on the night were Emma and Renae Sherwood aboard Ginjara and Defoe with Aleisha Bond driving Belle rounding out the successful combinations for the night.
Many promising performances were noticed on the night and success is not far away for a number of runners including Chevy Rocks (Alana Bednar), Paleface Deb (Grace Panella), Black Snow (Daniel Mogan), Roxy Surf Girl (Lily Hosking), Your Kiddin Me (Connor MacDonald), Little Romeo (Tori Hancock), Little Andy (Brad Elder), Honey (Abbey Mogan), Mad Sassy (Madelene Bond), Ashleigh's Honey ( Ashleigh Jackson) and Gransha (Melanie Elder).

Metro Club will be conducting Gala/Trial Days at Menangle Paceway on the First and Third Sundays of each month, starting from September. The only exception to this will be when a Super Sunday meet is scheduled for the same date.

"Here We Come" is the catch cry for Inner City Mini Trotting Members as the club launches into the new and exciting 2009/2010 season!!!

A HUGE season is planned for the club with the BIG news being that racing will now be conducted at Friday night Harold Park meetings on a more frequent basis than previous seasons!! This is a great boost for mini trotting and certainly goes along way to increasing our exposure - a big well done to Inner City Committee Members who have been instrumental in getting this in place.

Leeton Mini Trotting Club members had their first hit out for season 2009/2010 at Narrandera Show on Saturday September 5th.

It was the first time for many years that mini trots had made an appearance at the Narrandera Show and organisers were very keen to get the ponies back in action to add to their Shows events.

Numbers were down on the day due to a clash of dates with a few sporting fixtures on at the same time - our Leeton kids are multi talented sports people!! Four ponies took to the track to compete in two events. Old timers Alanah Pitt, Esther Deeves and Hannah Pitt took pleasure in teaching newcomer, Samuel Snudden, the ropes of race day! Leeton Club welcome Samuel into their club and look forward to sharing lots of fun times!!

Nest meet for the Leeton Club will be Leeton Show to be conducted UNDER LIGHTS on Friday October 9th 2009 with three races to be held, the first beginning at 5pm. To nominate please contact either Nerissa on 0428 536967 or Graham on 02 6953 2194.

Riverina Club is ready to swing into season 2009/2010 with a circuit of show racing throughout September/October.

Bathurst Mini Trotting Club are well under way with preparations for season 2009 / 2010.

The club will kick off their season with racing at Bathurst on October 14th, 2009 and will race at a total of thirteen Bathurst meets this season including the Christmas Meet on Decmber 23rd, Carnival Of Cups Meet on December 28th, Oberon Night on January 13th, and the Gold Crown Final on March 24th.
Their season will conclude on April 7th, 2010 before it gets too cold to have the children out night racing!

HRNSW held their inaugural Industry Day at Menangle Park Paceway on Sunday, June 28th, 2009. Innercity Mini Trotting Club provided some fantastic racing throughout the day and aided NSW Mini Trotting Association in the running of their promotional stand.

The Club conducted two races on the day, with the crowd was going estatic with the mini trotters! Everybody had such a wonderful time!

After their racing, the children worked hard selling raffle tickets throughout the crowd to raise some funds for their club with the prize being a Blacks A Fake collage photo signed personally by Natalie Rasmussan. Well done to these children for actively supporting their club!!

Earlier this month at Newcastle Paceway the 09 retiring drivers of Newcastle Maitland Mini Trotting Club had a presentation. The three girls retiring were Simone Elder, Sarah Hall and Kayla Smith - all "big" names in our sport most would agree!

They each received a gift to mark the occasion which was a beautiful photo frame with four pictures of their best moments from their entire racing careers.

They had no idea about the special presentation in front of the big crowd so it was certainly a shock to them all! In their true style the three girls handled the situation with ease - well, no one can say that they are strangers to being out on the track!

All three girls have been (and will continue to be!) wonderful ambassadors for mini trotting - and we all wish them the best of luck in their future endeavours both on and off the track.

For all of them the journeys just begun......

With still another four weeks of school left for this term (groan, groan!) and with most of the State experiencing such cold weather, how nice would it be to go on holidays??? Go north, somewhere warm??? Go and watch the best horses in the world race at a world class complex?? No, no holiday giveaways here - just reflecting on what could be - or what was for some lucky mini trotting participants who attended the Interdominion Series at the Gold Coast which was held back in March!

Quite a few of our families attended the big event, some children were even lucky enough to drive on the same track that the best of the best standardbreds raced a remarkable 2009 Interdom Final on!! Such an exciting time for all in attendance and lots of memories to take away from the grand event.

Inner City driver Sam Xuerub steered Yogi Bear for his first win recently. To mark the occasion, the Xuerub family had the professional on course photographer do up a photo display of the big event!!

Metropolitan Mini Trotting Club raced an exciting card of mini trot events at the Young Carnival Of Cups meet which was held in early May.

Despite the cold night, the club had a great turnout of ponies and drivers all keen to participate in the racing. The children were well received by the large crowd in attendance, the cheer down the home straight was enormous!! Well done to all the children who represented our mini trotting sport on this night, some fantastic and encouraging comments have been received - you should all be so proud!!

Mark McNamara enjoyed calling the races and performed an excellent job, as always!

The night was special for Katie Usher and Ashlee Johnson marking their final mini trotting outing as they have both now reached the grand retirement age of 16. The Metro Club takes this time to wish them both the best wishes in their future endeavours. Ashlee has upcoming surgery which will hopefully improve her hearing - best wishes with this Ashlee. Katie is planning to apply for a senior licence so it shouldn't be long until we see Katie going around at the trots - good luck Katie!!

Metro Club now take a well deserved break during these cooler months and recommence racing around Spring.

Janette McMullen in Queensland currently has a few mini trotting ponies for sale to good homes where they will be used for mini trotting events. The ponies range in heights from 10 hh to 11 hh.

Innercity Club will be racing on Sunday 14th and Sunday 28th June at Menangle Park . They will be ceasing Friday Night racing at Harold Park during the cooler months resuming in August.

Racing didn't stop for Leeton Club on Easter Sunday afternoon - the club have raced ta two meets since the Championships and, unfortunately, had to cancel the meet at Coolamon on ANZAC Day due to bad weather .

Backing up from hosting the successful 25th NSW Mini Trotting Championships at Easter time, Leeton Club were again back on the track conducting three races on Saturday night, 18th April 2009.

Race One was a "mini affair" with three Nine Hands and Under Ponies filling up the podium positions. Big improved pony, Sparkey (Todd Prest) recorded a handy victory by kicking away from the field to finish ahead of Duracell (Esther Deeves) and Turbo (Dylan Smith).

The fast, back mark ponies showed their stuff in Race Two, making their way through the field to finish at the pointy end. Leeton driver, Hannah Pitt, recorded her first ever win aboard Nanna Smoke, narrowly defeating her sister, Alanah driving Gold Star, who finished second and Billy Bye (Jett Clarke) finished quickly to claim third.

Josh Higgins kept his pony, Shadow, on a tight rein in Race Three, trotting the course well to finish victorious ahead of Murrami Magic (Peter McRae) and Duracell (Esther Deeves) who completed the placings.

The drivers incentive award was presented to Kelsey Deeves for her patient driving display aboard Cinderella.

It certainly was Josh's night, he obviously was wearing his lucky undies, winning both the MP3 player and gift voucher in the drivers lucky draws!

Leeton Mini Trotting Club concluded their 2008/2009 Season in grand style on Saturday afternoon, 2nd May, 2009, by conducting four races through the program at Leeton trots.

Todd Prest completed his wonderful season with a convincing victory aboard the little front marker pony, Sparkey, in the first race. Following Todd and Sparkey home for the placings were improved pony Turbo (Dylan Smith "look how fast my pony can go!"), Mystery Nugget (Jett Clarke "am I playing footy or driving my pony??") and Magic Merv (Amy Diebert aka Handle Bars).

Race two saw Hannah Pitt drive her shetland, Nanna Smoke, to perfection to record a good win ahead of Eveready (Keely Hancock _ "it's my first drive today!"), Duracel (Esther Deeves aka Sleepy Sheepy) and Eagle Flyer (Laura Diebert aka Mushroom!!!!).

Retiring driver, Kelsey Deeves (WE love you Kelsey!!), made every post a winner in Race three, steering Cinderella home for the win. Kelsey made the quick dash from helping the canteen ladies to take the reins in time for her last mini trotting drive! Well done Miss Kelse! Hot on her heels were Billy Bye (Todd Prest) and Magic Merv (Amy Bars) who dead heated for second with Nanna Smoke (Hannah - "no I don't fight with Alanah!") awarded the fourth placing.

Race Four was the last of the Leeton season and saw a great race resulting in a close finish. Little mushroom, Laura Diebert was able to guide Eagle Flyer through the field to take final race line honours with Cinderella (Sleepy Esther ), Eveready (Keely) and Billy Bye (Todd the Pro Driver Man) following for the placings.

Alanah "no I don't fight with Hannah" Pitt was awarded the Daily Incentive Award.

Leeton Club is now in recess for the cooler months and will be looking to recommence racing around August/September. We have stacks of fun at Leeton - a great bunch of kids who all wear BIG smiles (one of our Club rules!) and simply love their mini trotting!!! Well done Team Leeton!!

Ex mini trotting driver, Rebecca Rutland, was tragically taken in a motorcycle accident last week. Rebecca drove mini trotters for many years and herself and her family have been involved most recently assisting a newcomer to the sport get started.

A huge loss to the Riverina Harness Industry - our condolences go to Judith, Trevor and the Rutland family on their sad loss.

Metropolitan Mini Trotting Club will be conducting races at the YOUNG CARNIVAL OF CUPS meet on Saturday 9th May, 2009.

A child aged between the age of 11 and 14 years who is a registered Mini trotter participant may enter the stabling area and horse stall at any sanctioned activity associated with the sport of Harness Racing (including race meetings and official trials) to assist on an educational basis with strapping and preparation of standardbreds. Children are not allowed in if they are not supervised by an adult and if is not for educational purposes. Directions and requirements in these areas given by Stewards of the Meeting (currently GHRRA) must be adhered to.

Metropolitan Club has enjoyed good numbers of drivers at their meets over season 2008/2009. Attached you will see some pictures of club members in their colours.

The children in the group photo are Georgia Cooney,Skye Campbell,Nyaire Carpenter,Ashley Carpenter,Maddison Cooney,Billee Johnson,Gemma Cooney,Ashlee Johnson,Monique Carpenter,Codi Rauchenberger,and a new member for the upcoming 2009/10 season Travis Rauchenberger.

This season members travelled to contest shows at Nowra,Kangaroo Valley and Robertson.Gala days are held at Menangle Park Paceway on the first and third Sundays of the month starting at 10am.

Absent from the group photo is Kate Usher of Canberra - these championships will be her last before going on to senior racing as she has reached the grand old age of 16. Metro Club members wish Kate all the best as she makes this progression.

All club members made the trek to Leeton for the Championships which were a great weekend for all who attended.

Riverina Club have had a very successful season, getting big numbers to their race meetings during the past few months. The club has now gone into recess for the cooler months, giving ponies, children and parents/grandparents a well deserved spell!!

The club will recommence racing again at showtime in August/September and they encourage anyone looking to become involved with mini trotting next season to come along to these shows and qualify their ponies for racing.

Riverina Club wishes their retiring drivers for the season, Bec Lamb and Ricky Judd, all success as they venture forward from mini trotting. Both Bec and Ricky have been involved with mini trotting for the past ten years. A presentation was made to both of the drivers at the NSW Championships over Easter.

WOW! What a fantastic weekend! The smiles on the faces of all our child drivers were worth a million dollars!

We hope everyone has travelled home safely with few dramas along the way!

Huge congratulations to Todd Prest and Energizer on winning the Junior Pony Interdom on Saturday night at Parklands, Gold Coast.

All our representatives from NSW served our Association well and were proud ambassadors for NSW Mini Trotting on the night.

Energizer (Todd Prest - Leeton Club) won the Pony Final displaying great form to finish 7.5 metres ahead of Frosty (Jessika Manzelmann). Energizer came off the 690 handicap mark and recorded a time of 1.25.568.

Paleface Katie (Jessika Manzelmann) showed the goods in the Shetland Division, scraping home by 2.5 metres to record the win ahead of Llaberif. Paleface Katie came off the 657.5 metre handicap mark and had the official recorded time of 1.29.192.

Both divisions had strong support from the on course crowd who really got into the moment and cheered all the ponies home!

With Energizer, Frosty and Paleface Katie all nominated for the NSW Championships at Easter time, we can look forward to some great racing and close finishes!

Once again, well done to all our competitors from NSW!

Saturday night saw Leeton Mini Trotting take to the track for their last hit out under lights before the State Championships which will be held at the Lin Gordon Paceway over the upcoming Easter weekend.

With a good turn out of ponies, four races were contested during the evening and some close finishes were witnessed. Race One prize money was taken home by Bectric visitor, Paige Wilesmith, driving her little pony, Sandy. Sandy stepped away to record a sound victory ahead of Turbo (Dylan Smith), Cinderella (Esther Deeves) and Shadow (Josh Higgins).

The conclusion of Race Two was an exciting tussle between Bourke's Backyard Racing stablemates Mystery Nugget and Billy Bye, with Mystery Nugget finding that little extra at the end to get the judges nod for driver Jett Clarke. Billy Bye (Todd Prest) had to settle for second place with Eagle Flyer (Laura Diebert) and Nanna Smoke (Hannah Pitt) close behind, slotting in for third and fourth places respectively.

Alanah Pitt drove Gold Star to perfection in Race Three to come from the rear handicap mark and score a good win. Hot on Gold Star's heels were Shadow (Josh Higgins), Eveready (Todd Prest) and Sandy (Paige Wilesmith) who filed in to complete the placings.

The judges had their work cut out in Race Four with four ponies all crossing the line with only a head separating first to fourth placings! Billy Bye (Todd Prest) produced the goods right on the line to be awarded first place, just edging out Mystery Nugget (Jett Clarke) who was awarded second. With the judges unable to split Murrami Magic (Peter McRae) and Eagle Flyer (Laura Diebert), a dead heat was declared for third place.

The Horsemanship Encouragement Awards for the night's racing were presented to Amy Diebert, Catherine Pitt, Hannah Pitt and Kelsey Deeves. Dylan Smith was the lucky voucher winner, whilst Esther Deeves won the lucky drivers dip for a MP3 player.

Leeton Club wishes their member Todd Prest good luck as he contests the Pony Interdom Final at the Gold Coast this Saturday aboard Energizer. Energizer is a much seasoned performer who is owned and trained by Kim Hillyer of Leeton.

Leeton Club will have their final hit out under lights on Saturday March 21st before the NSW Championships at Easter time. With the home track advantage, a number of local ponies will be in attendance for the night preparing for the Easter meet.

Bathurst Mini Trotting Club will be conducting races at the prestigious Bathurst Gold Crown Carnival over the next week. They will be racing on Saturday March 21st and Wednesday March 25th (time permitting).

With the heats conducted it was time for the final and it was Your Kiddin Me with Connor MacDonald and Roger for Daniel Morgan staging a real battle down the straight. However when the winning post come up it was Conner just winning from Daniel. Fast improving Bay Admiral was fast finishing taking out third for Sarah Hall..

Mr Reily with James Harding aboard was successful in the consolation event conducted deafeating new pony to the club Fabian (Jackson McDonald) and consistent Honey taking third for Abbey Morgan. Belle ran a real eye catching effort in this event.

After being impressed with the appearance of mini trotters at the recent Carnival of Cup meeting local Maitland MP Frank Terenzini kindly supported the association at the Maitland Show with all those competing receiving a grooming pack for their ponies. We thank Mr Terenzini for his interest and support to the club.

Metropolitan Mini Trotting Club have recently competed at events at Shows in Nowra and Kangaroo Valley. Both shows were well attended and all participants thoroughly enjoyed themselves!

Metro Club have quite a large contingent of ponies and drivers preparing to make the trek to Leeton at Easter time to attend the NSW Championships. The children are looking forward to competing against all the other ponies and catching up with friends over the weekend!

Leeton Mini Trotting Club conducted four races at the trots on Saturday night. With 17 ponies and 21 child drivers in attendance, the night was a good hit out for all participants in preparation for the upcoming NSW State Championships to be held in Leeton over the Easter weekend.

Race One on the card saw Pony Championship favourites, Lightning Jack (Rebecca Lamb) and Energizer (Todd Prest) speed around the field from the back marks to collect first and second placings respectively. The speedsters were followed home by Shadow, who displayed good form for reinsman Josh Higgins on return from a two year spell to finish third, ahead of Murrami Magic (Peter McRae) who slotted into fourth place.

Ben Lamb's new shetland, Itty Bitty, made every post a winner in Race Two, recording a convincing win ahead of Nanna Smoke (Alanah Pitt), Cinderella (Esther Deeves) and Rodeo Cowboy (James Stening).

Ben Lamb (aka as Lamb Chops) swapped ponies in Race Three, taking the drive on his seasoned pony, Casket. Ben's good luck for the night continued as her steered Casket around the track to finish victorious! Ben was followed home by Rodeo Cowboy (Harry Stening), Viduka (Darcy Cochrane) and Gold Star (Alanah Pitt).

The final race saw an extremely close finish with Nanna Smoke (Alanah Pitt) just nudging out Billy Bye (Todd Prest) for first place. Also not far behind were Cinderella (Esther Deeves) and Magic Merv (Amy Diebert) who were awarded thrid and fourth placings.

Lucky driver prizes went to Amy Diebert (MP3 player) and Todd Prest ($30 Gift voucher from Dartos Apparel - Leeton). All children got to pick a small lucky dip prize from the box and also received an ice cream courtesy of the Ice Cream Man on course!

The Club will be holding an Open Day this Sunday, 1st March, 2009, at the trotting track starting at 4pm. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in becoming involved in this fun sport to come and see what is involved. The Leeton Club will utilize the main canteen and admin buildings near the marshall areas as shown in the first picture.

For participants information, please find attached photos of stable accomodation and the home straight of the Lin Gordon Paceway, Leeton.

The stable pictured shows a lock up night box with attached day yard. These boxes will easily accomodate two ponies, one in the day yard and one in the night yard. Fees will be charged by the individual box (ie, night box and day yard as pictured are two boxes). In addition to this stabling, temporary under cover stabling will be erected for the evnt as required. This stabling will be securely fenced. All stabling will be allocated as nominations are received, it will be first in, best dressed (or stabled!!). NO stabling will be allocated/reserved until payment has been accepted with official nomination form. All stables have dirt flooring and saw dust will available on site for those wishing to lay extra bedding, this will be free of charge. Water taps and tie up rails are in close proximity to all stabling.

These stables are located over the back of the race track, race day stalls and camping sites will be over the front.

The second photo shows the track home straight, just prior to the winning post. It also displays the main under cover grandstand which will be used for the bulk of Presentations and Driver Briefings over the weekend.

It's Championships Time for 2009!

Leeton Mini Trotting Club are gearing up for a top Easter weekend as they host the 25th NSW Mini Trotting Championships. Lots of planning has gone into the weekend and the Club looks forward to welcoming participants from across the nation to Leeton for the event.

Members of the Newcastle Maitland Association were treated to an information day by horse product firm TUFF ROCK at Maitland Showground.
Terry Priest gave up his time to talk to the members about the need to have horses feeling good and wanting to compete in mini trots. Terry outlined that by applying a poultice to certain areas of the ponies not only did the pony enjoy the massage the poultice was beneficial to the overall welfare of the ponies in repairing muscles and little nicks and cuts.
Terry supplied Tuff Rock poultice for the members to apply to the ponies (some ended up on the members) and told them spots that they should massage that would make the ponies feel good.
Terry along with Steve Hurley was kind enough to give all that attended a Tub of the firm's poultice and bottle of conditioner which among other things improve ponies' health and appearance.
Members of the club enjoyed the experience as the photos show and thank Terry and Steve for the interest they have shown in the members.
Terry did mention that the poultice on occasions has been used as mud pack for beauty treatment to humans but I must report that I have not seen any results to date.

Show circuit in the Hunter Valley began on Friday 13th February (Black Friday) when Cessnock held its Annual Show. Bad weather threatened all day and we were successful in competing however the show was unable to continue on Saturday with the rain causing the remainder of the show being postpone to later this week.
Our programme got underway with local Cessnock member Madelene Hanson taking out the first event of the night with Black Snow. Abbey Morgan ran a gallant second on Honey while Simone Elder brought the fast finishing Defoe home for a good third.
Next fixture on the programme saw back marker Secret Mission return to the winners list for Samantha Moore defeating newcomer Black Rocket for Daniel Morgan and earlier winner Black Snow (Madelene Hanson) running third.
Final event of the night saw Dream Master and Kate Moore successful in defeating Defoe for Simone Elder and Kate's sister Samantha running third on Secret Misson. The two improved runs on the night come for stable mates Mad Sassy and Belle for Team Bond starring Madelene and Aleisha and look for these two to be a big threat in coming weeks.

Amendment to Information Letter sent with Nomination Forms for Championships - divisions should be Under 9 hands (9.0 hands and under), Shetlands (9.1 hands to 10.2 hands) and Ponies (10.3 hands to 13 hands)- Shetland section is simply a misprint (yes, I am human!) in the information letter. This letter does not form part of the Official Nomination Form - it is just general information for participants.

Under 9 hands and Shetlands will go into the correct division - NO NEED TO PANIC! Most important thing to do is put your nominations in with the CORRECT HEIGHT of your pony and your pony will go into the correct division.

Queensland Junior Harness Racing Association are in desperate need of nominations from ponies over 10.2 hands and up to 13 hands for the upcoming Interdominion.

The Association is willing to take 4 nominations from NSW for this particular section. The ponies will go straight into the final.

At this stage only 5 Queensland nominations have been received with no nominations from any other states. If no further nominations are made the race will be scrapped.

A Gala Day held in honor of long serving member Maureen Mordue's (nan to most of the kids) contribution to mini trotting was held at Maitland Showground. Maureen has been a valuable member to our club over past years and whilst she has not given mini trots away has decided to step down from the secretary's position in the club. Events were conducted in memory of her family members and ponies from the past as well a BBQ lunch with all the members present joining Maureen for lunch to share some times from the past.

The third race was named the "GOLDEN MILE" event and a trophy for the winner was kindly donated by Mr Greg Coney.

Connor MacDonald experienced his most successful night to date with 3 wins aboard Your Kiddin Me at Newcastle Paceway Saturday night. Conner starting the night defeating Black Snow driven by Daniel Morgan and Little Andy for Bradley Elder. This was Connor's first win on his pony Your Kiddin Me and returned to the stable area an excited boy.

Not over his win Connor once again gave the field a merry chase just lasting long enough to take out the event. Good runs in the event were noted by Honey for Abbey Morgan and the grey Silver Star for Matthew Grant showing a win should be in store for them in the near future.

Re handicapped 25 metres for his earlier success was not enough to stop the winning combination of Connor and Your Kiddin Me with the pair again successful proving too strong for the fast finishing Defoe (Simone Elder) in a close photo and the improving Jacko also close up third.

Final event of the night saw Little Andy (Bradley Elder) make amends for his earlier placings defeating Jacko (Sarah Hall) and Ashleigh's Honey (Ashleigh Jackson) third. Mr Reily driven by James Harding was an improved run in the event leading into the straight just to be caught by the field in the last bit of the Newcastle straight and with Mr Reily showing he is beginning to adapt to mini trots and the combination will be a real threat in coming weeks.

Next week (Sunday 8th Feb) the club will be holding a Gala Day at the Maitland track in a day that will be in appreciation of the contribution past Secretary Maureen Mordue has made to the club. Anyone that has enjoyed Maureen's involvement over the years is welcome to attend the day and share past times. Racing starts at 11am and nominate on usual numbers. All members and visitors welcome.

The Tamworth Mini Trotting Club will be racing between events at the Sunday matinee meetings at Tamworth Harness Racing meets on the following dates:

Leeton Club are busy finalising preparations for the 25th NSW Mini Trotting Championships - things are coming together well and the weekend is shaping up to be one to remember! The long trek for some participants will be well worth the effort!

Racing will commence at approximately 9.30am on Saturday morning, after drivers briefings etc. ALL three divisions will contest three heats each, a first for the Under 9 hand division! All heat rounds will be raced through the day, with a half hour break in between each round. ALL ponies will start in Finals which will be held under lights on the Saturday night starting at 6pm.

Fun Day racing will start @ 9.30am - with racing going right through the day to conclude with our popular driver raffles and the like!

Nomination Forms will be posted to all registered members in the upcoming weeks. Once finalised, these forms will be available for download from this website.

Metropolitan Mini Trotting Club are coming into a busy period of racing, a perfect preparation for those participants heading to the Leeton Championships at Easter Time!!

Show racing is in full swing at the moment with the Club competing at Nowra Show on Saturday February 7th and Kangaroo Valley Show on Saturday February 14th!

The Club also holds regular Open Days/ Gala Days at the Menangle Park Paceway on the first and third Sundays of each month, commencing at 10am. The days are "open" meaning that anyone can attend. New children are most welcome to come along and see what mini trotting is all about, learn to drive etc. Ponies can be measured on the day and horses and drivers can qualify.

Tamworth Mini Trotting Club have just completed a busy schedule through the month of January, racing at five meetings and conducting an open day!

A Club pointscore was kept during this busy time and was won by 14 year old Courtney Sutherland! Well done Courtney!! Courtney drives "Joycie May" and was fortunate to finish on top of the pointscore after all the meetings.

The score was very close with only ten points separating first to fifth placings after a total of seven races. All competitors received a trophy for their efforts, these were generously donated by Greg Westwood of Laurieton. Greg is a Harness Racing Steward and big supporter of mini trotting!

An open day/information day was held on January 17th and was a great success for this newly formed club! New sponsor, KFL Technologies came on board to help give the club a boost!

The parent/gig race was a highlight of the day and entertaining to say the least! Chris Sutherland (Tamworth Mini President) made every post a winner in claiming victory, with Anthony Missen finishing second and Dean Chapple third. Club secretary, Nicole Ison, tired badly in the later stages and was carted home in the gig by her driver!!

Drivers Tom Ison, Daniel Missen, Ben Ison, Courtney Sutherland and Elly Chapple all had a great day and look forward to their next meet!

Great work Tamworth - won't be long before you see your numbers increase with all the hard work you are putting in!!

Mini trotting participants celebrated Australia Day in style by attending the Carnival of Cups meet at Junee that evening! It was a busy couple of days for the club who had also raced at Junee on the Saturday night.

Riverina Club raced four mini trot races each night and were pleased to see their numbers at record levels since EI.

On the Saturday night, Race One was taken out by Ganmain driver, Shayla Mulholland driving Little Bugger. Shayla has been having a wonderful season to date, finishing in the placings on many occasions! Harry Stening steered Rodeo Cowboy home to finish second whilst Viduka (Maddison Carroll) finished third.

Ashley Hart collected the first place prize money in Race Two aboard Sir Blue, followed home by Sabrina (Maddison Carroll) and Rodeo Cowboy (James Stening).

Race Three saw Cee Wilson pick up a handy win for Rhiannon Mulholland ahead of Violet (Stephen Davidge) and Sandy (Paige Maree Wilesmith).

Shayla made the night a "Mulholland Trifecta" in Race Four by guiding Candy home to record a good win. Ben Lamb driving Casket was close behind for second and Nightmare (Joe Carroll) finished third.

The Red Division HRNSW Carnival of Cups Race was the first event on the program on Monday evening. With a great vocal crowd in attendance, the children received a huge cheer as they climbed the hill towards the winning post! Leeton driver Alanah Pitt aboard Nanna Smoke drove a great race to get the judges nod and collect the first place trophy! Hot on her heels however was Junee newcomer, Brooke Harris driving Sir Spencer, who was having her first start! Brooke had obviously received some driving tips from her dad, Matthew, before the big race and Brooke put these into place as she guided Sir Spencer home to finish second. Paige Maree Wilesmith also drove Sandy a treat to come home into third position! Well done girls!!

Bec Lamb claimed another HRNSW Carnival of Cup winners trophy with her high stepping pony, Lightning Jack, coming from back in the field to take the Junee title. Bec has got this pony in fine form and will definitely be one to watch at the upcoming Championships, this is Bec's last Championships as she is due to retire at the end of the season and she is determined to go out in a big way!!! Bec was followed home by seasoned performers Negro Dancer (Chris Judd) and Nightmare (Cody Carroll) completing the placings. Both these ponies will also provide some competitive racing over the Easter weekend.

Race Three was a close affair, with Harry Stening driving Rodeo Cowboy to victory in superb fashion! Joe Carroll was close behind with Black Babe for second place, whilst Paige Maree Wilesmith and Sandy claimed their third, third place over the two nights of racing!!

The final race of the night was fast paced and full of action. Cody Carroll, driving Nightmare, came home the strongest and finished in first place ahead of Sabrina (Maddsion Carroll) and Negro Dancer (Chris Judd).

The children were delighted as Greg Hayes from SKY presented the trophies and prizes for the night. Prize winners over the nights included Makayla Carroll (Ipod) and the Stening Family (Sander and Wind Up Torch).

New member to the Newcastle Maitland Club James Harding driving his pony Mr Reily recorded his first registered meeting win when he was successful at Newcastle Paceway Saturday night.
After taking the lead early in the event James drove Mr Reily well keeping him trotting along boldly to defeat Bradley Elder on the consistent Little Andy who once again was the runner up with the most improved pony of the season Ashleigh's Honey once again racing well for Ashleigh Jackson. Honey for Abbey Morgan and another newcomer Little Admiral trained and driven by Sarah Hall were both responsible for good efforts in the event.
Opening race of the night saw a "Team Elder Trifecta" with Simone bringing Defoe from one of the back marks to just defeat Bradley aboard Little Andy while Melanie on the back marker Gransha was a real eye catching run. This was a real good effort for the Elder family putting real pressure on their father and Uncle Darren to drive a winner in the senior harness. Darren did not let the team down.
Final event of the evening had front runner Rodger for Daniel Morgan getting away with a big lead with the pack chasing hard. It was Mr Reily and James Harding following his earlier success the first to catch Rodger and go on to post a double for the combination on the night. Little Andy and Bradley Elder were once again runner up just unable to beat Mr Reily and Black Snow running a much improved effort for Madelene Hanson to finish a good third.
With Mark McNamara taking a well deserved break we thank Josh Flemming for stepping up to the mike to call our races on the night.

The Cup races were conducted using the metres per second rating, this was deemed a great success and provided some close racing.

Riverina members are now preparing for their next big Carnival of Cups meet at Junee on Australia Day. Junee trots will also race on Saturday January 24th, a prelude to the Cup.

Penrith Mini Trotting Club celebrated Christmas 2008 at the Penrith HRC meet. A total of 14 drivers and ponies took to the track to compete in a total of 4 races over the nights program. All competitors had a great time - obviously knowing that the Big Man In Red (aka Santa!!) was watching!

And Santa made his appearance, so thrilled with the mini trotters that he included them in his parade, shortly after Race Five. Club President, Michael O'Neill, had the opportunity to get up close and personal to Mr Claus. Mr Claus stated that he continues to watch the kids race all year around and loves coming to the trots to watch them live. Santa also added that he hoped that all ponies got a little gift at Christmas time from their trainers/drivers, his suggestion was a nice juicy carrot or apple!!

Following our night at the Carnival of Cup meeting members of Newcastle Maitland ventured to Cessnock the next day to conduct a Gala Day.
The day started out with Bradley Elder and Little Andy defeating the Madelene Hanson driven Black Snow and newcomer Icecream finishing third for Sarah Hall.
Icecream was quick to show he had benefited from his first start to defeat Little Andy and Black Snow in the next event.
Dream Master (Kate Moore) made a welcome return of form in the third event to defeat the Ashleigh Jackson driven Ashleigh's Honey with Secret Mission finishing third for Samantha Moore
Samantha showed little time to prove Secret Mission liked the Cessnock track with an improved effort in the next defeating Honey (Abbey Morgan) and the fast finishing Defoe running home well for third.
Honey was successful in the next event defeating Little Andy with Black Snow a good third.
Black Snow was quick to return to the winners circle for Madelene in the next defeating the consistent Little Andy and James Harding bringing Mr Reily home for third.
James Harding was quick to show that Mr Reily had benefited from his outings to win his first event on. Mr Reily proving too strong for Little Andy and Black Snow.
Lily Hosking decided it was her turn for a slice of the action leading all the way on Paleface Deb from the fast finishing duo of Little Andy and Black Snow
To round the day out Lily made it a double on Paleface Deb to defeat Gransha well driven by Melanie Elder and noted frontrunner Rodger and Daniel Morgan running third.
Cessnock show president made a visit to the venue to watch the mini trotters and impressed with what he was watching invited us to come back soon and asked the association to participate at their Annual Show to be held on Friday 13th February.

On Saturday 10th January Maitland Harness Racing Club held their 46th Inter City Pace. Mini trotting was highlighted on the night with the running of 4 feature events.
First event of the night was sponsored by the family of member Matthew Grant in memory of Matthew's grandfather Kevin who was a respected and fantastic volunteer for the club before departing us in tragic circumstances.
The much improved Rodger and Paleface Deb (Lily Hosking) skipped away to an early lead just in front of Your Kiddin' Me (Connor MacDonald) and visitor Little Miss Lily driven by Gemma Coney all the way from Nowra. Among the back markers were Sydney visitor Running Bear with Jayden Graham aboard, Silver Star (Matthew Grant), Dream Master (Kate Moore), Jacko (Sarah Hall) and Defoe (Simone Elder) all were keenly chasing and in hot pursuit of the tear away leaders. Mad Sassy for Madelene Bond failed to begin with the rest of the field and was a long way behind however Madelene was chasing hard to try to catch the field. Despite the endeavors of the back markers Daniel Morgan despite being headed in the straight urged Rodger to the line to defeat Your Kiddin' Me and visitor Little Miss Lily third.

Next event was supported by tireless workers for the club Kristy Bond and Sue Morgan who supplied the trophies for the event. When the flag dropped Smokin' Gun (Jonathon Byrnes) Good Golly Miss Molly (Gemma Coney) Little Andy (Brad Elder) and Honey (Abbey Morgan) all went forward in a hurry while back in the field visitors McKayler Barnes and Jania Niass aboard Midnight Express and Little Cheeky began chasing the leaders along with Ashleigh's Honey for Ashleigh Jackson. Belle (Aleisha Bond) and Gransha (Melanie Elder) were making their runs together whilst back markers Golden Champ (Jackson McDonald) and Secret Mission (Samantha Moore) were already making up their handicaps and making good ground. As the winning post came up it was Honey with Abbey Morgan driving coolly winning from fast finishing visitor Mc Kayler Barnes on her pony Midnight Express while Gransha made good ground late in the event for Melanie Elder to run third.

The running of the Hayes/McNamara Bigger-Better-Best Carnival of Cup was a keenly contested event. The front makers were setting a hot pace up front but it was to be the swoopers from back in the field making their runs late to see Jacko well driven by Sarah Hall take out the Cup from Nowra pony Little Miss Lily, well handled by Gemma Coney while Defoe was impressive in coming from the back mark for Simone Elder to run a gallant third. Just behind the place getters were Silver Star and Running Bear for their drivers Matthew Grant and Jayden Graham. Black Snow (Madelane Hanson) and Dream Master (Kate Moore) both run their usual honest race while the front three markers in the event Rodger (Daniel Morgan) Paleface Deb (Lily Hosking) and Your Kiddin Me (Connor Mac Donald) all found their early pace too much to finish back in the field. Special mention to Madelene Bond, while experienced a bad start in the earlier event performing much better on Mad Sassy to finish mid field in what was a real improvement on recent starts. Well done Madelene.

Final event of the night, the HRNSW Carnival Of Cups was a thrilling event, as the runners approached the line any one of the runners looked the winner but in the end it was Honey prevailing for Abbey Morgan in a close finish from Good Golly Miss Molly coolly driven by Gemma Coney and with Ashleigh's Honey being brought right down the outside of the track by Ashleigh Jackson third in a photo from Smokin Gun for Jonathon Byrnes. Sydney visitors McKayler Barnes and Jania Niass were both close up on their ponies Midnight Express and Little Cheeky, back markers Gransha and Secret Mission were both responsible for top effort off their marks and Melanie Elder and Samantha Moore will be in the winners circle soon. Two other ponies Belle and Little Andy who have been very consistent in past week failed to produce their best on the night for Aleisha Bond and Bradley Elder but with the form they showed in recent weeks I am sure they will be back in good form in coming weeks.
Credit to all attending in ensuring we conducted events to our schedule on what was a huge night for Maitland Harness Racing club and we are proud to be a part of their event. Well done to all. To our visitors Gemma, Jania, Jayden and McKayler hope you enjoyed your night and come back soon. In closing it is disappointing that one of our longest racing ponies Golden Champ may have run her last event. Goldie has been battling injury and age over recent weeks and to her trainer/driver Jackson Mc Donald you really have done a fantastic job with Goldie and we hope you find a replacement for her real soon as we need you at our club to beat Bradley each week.

With all the festivities over, the holiday crowd at Newcastle Paceway were treated to a good competitive event by members of Newcastle Maitland Mini Trot Association. With heats of the time honored Inter City Pace conducted at the meeting the crowd saw Abbey Morgan steer her pony Honey home to take out the feature event of the night the New Year Cup.
Front marker Rodger (Daniel Morgan) held a handy lead halfway down the straight but tiring hard behind were Black Snow with Madelene Hanson aboard, the ever improving Silver Star for Matthew Grant, Sarah Hall and her pony Jacko along with Ashleigh's Honey for trainer driver Ashleigh Jackson and eventual winner Honey being urged home by Abbey Morgan. Just behind this group were consistent Little Andy for Bradley Elder and the back markers Gransha and Defoe making their runs together for cousins Melanie and Simone Elder.
With the winning post in sight Honey surged to the lead to give Abbey Morgan a very deserved win from a fast finishing Silver Star (Matthew Grant) making it's run with third placed Black Snow (Madelene Hanson). Just behind the place getters were Ashleigh's Honey and Jacko for their drivers Ashleigh and Sarah.
Congratulations to Abbey on her biggest win so far and to all drivers on the night that once again had the crowd very involved in the events.
First support event on the night saw front runner Rodger just kicking long enough to defeat stable mate Honey and Jacko a close third.
Last event for the night back markers Gransha and Defoe made their runs together in pursuit of front marker Rodger and as the three ponies hit the line together Gransha for Melanie done a little too good for Defoe driven hard by Simone and Rodger despite being urged to line for Daniel just missing out to run third. Just behind the place getters was Little Andy (Brad Elder) and Silver Star (Mathew Grant) in what was a thrilling finish.
Racing next weekend is at Maitland with the running of the Kevin Grant Memorial, Inter City Mini Pace as well as the Carnival of Cups events all on what promises to be action packed night of mini trotting.

In twlight racing at Menangle Park on Friday 2nd January 2009, Innercity Mini Trotting Club conducted two "Free For All" races during the evening.

All participants had a fantastic time and the meeting produced two great mini trotting races.

The Xuereb boys, Sean, Nathan and Sam, guided their ponies home to make up the trifecta in Race One on the program. Coming off the 760 metre mark, Sean drove Little Jon to record a good victory ahead of Smoke Cloud (Nathan) and Little Miss Lilly (Sam) who completed the placings. Smoke Cloud started the race off the 780 metre mark and Little Miss Lilly off the 600 metre mark.

Race Two also produced an exciting finish with Good Golly Miss Molly recording her first ever win. Good Golly Miss Molly was driven a treat by Jemma Coney and was a well deserved winner. Fireblaze was in good form for reinsman Bryse McElhinney ( aka B Mac!) and finished into second place, with Sam Xuereb continuing his good luck for the night by picking up third place with Little Miss Lilly.

Carnival of Cups Night at Leeton on New Years Night, 1st Jan 2009, was always set to be a huge night showcasing the Riverina Harness Industry, and the night itself did not disappoint! With a crowd of close to 1500 patrons on course the Leeton Harness Club kicked off 2009 in true style.

Leeton Mini Trotting Club were proud to play a big part throughout the night's proceedings.

The mini trotters provided the crowd with early entertainment by conducting two races prior to the first main race.

In the first discretionary race Leeton local Amy Diebert, driving Magic Merv, skipped away to record a sound victory. Amy's sister Laura was close behind with her pony Eagle Flyer collecting second place with Cee Wilson (Shayla Mulholland) and Little Midget (Makayla Carroll) picking up third and fourth.

The big, high stepping pony, Lightening Jack, driven by Rebecca Lamb, was driven a treat to take out line honours in Race Two. Following Rebecca home for the placings were Negro Dancer (Chris Judd) second, Gold Star (Alanah Pitt) third and Sabrina (Maddison Carroll) fourth.

The First Division of the Leeton Carnival of Cups was the next mini trotting race on the program which proved extremely popular with the large crowd with the children receiving a large cheer as they headed down to the winning post. The race was an exciting event with all ponies racing well and providing a good finish. Peter McRae from Murrami, near Leeton, steered his little Shetland, Murrami Magic, through the field to cross the line in first place! The placings were tight with four ponies all crossing the line in close succession. Amy Diebert, driving Magic Merv, continued her luck for the night collecting second place and was once again followed closely by sister Laura,and her pony Eagle Flyer, who was awarded third place. Mystery Nugget (Jett Clarke) and Cee Wilson (Shayla Mulholland) filed in for fourth and fifth positions in the close finish.

The Second Division was again popular with the crowd and displayed some excellent mini trotting racing. Wyalong driver Rebecca Lamb recorded a double for the night as she patiently guided Lightening Jack home into first place after encountering some trouble in the early stages of the race. The placings were tight with the judges having a hard job working out who finished where! Rebecca's brother, Ben, collected second place aboard his pony Casket and Sabrina (Maddison Carroll) finished third. Gold Star (Alanah Pitt) and Little Bugger (Shayla Mulholland) finished just outside the prize money in fourth and fifth.

The Cup winners and placegetters were presented with trophies provided by HRNSW on the track immediately after their races. These presentations were made by Mr Robert Corrie, current board member of HRNSW. Mr Corrie spoke in his presentation of the importance of mini trotting to the main harness industry in that it is a nursery for our future senior harness racing participants and the need for the industry as a whole to keep supporting and encouraging these young drivers. As Mr Corrie presented the trophies to each of the individual recipients he complemented them on their efforts and gave each driver the opportunity to make a speech.

In addition to the track presentations,the Club held their usual presentation of prizes at the conclusion of racing. Special award winners for the night included Makayla Carroll ,who won a Gift Voucher from Dartos Apparel of Leeton as the lucky nightly drivers draw, Alanah Pitt was drawn from the lucky drivers hat to win a MP3 player/IPOD provided by HRNSW, and Rodeo Cowboy (Sam, Harry and James Stening) was also drawn from the unplaced horses hat to win a MP3 player.

At the conclusion of mini trot racing, mini trot drivers again took to the main track, this time in a different capacity. The children were honoured to carry banners displaying the horses names for both the Carnival of Cups and the prestigious Breeders Plate races. The children all displayed their banners and mini trot colours with pride and were excellent ambassadors for NSW Mini Trotting.

Leeton Club now take a break from racing with their next meet scheduled for Saturday, February 21st, 2009. The Club will be conducting a number of trial/education days for the children during the break as well as getting ready for the NSW Championships (Easter 2009). Newcastle Maitland conducted four events in front of a big holiday crowd at Newcastle Paceway Saturday night. With storms predicted for the night these did not arrive, apart from a few spots of rain the night was most entertaining.

Race 1 saw backmarkers Golden Champ (Jackson McDonald) and Defoe (Simone Elder ) making their runs together to overpower the front marker with Golden Champ successful just in front of Defoe. Abbey Morgan aboard Honey lead until the closing stages to run third.

Race 2 was one of the highlights of the night with Matthew Grant recording his maiden win at a registered event. Matthew and his pony Silver Star showed a big improvement and was well driven to defeat a gallant Black Snow driven by Madelene Hanson. Winner of the first event, backmarker Golden Champ driven by Jackson McDonald was a fast finishing third.

Race 3 had front marker Rodger turning for home with a huge lead on the chasing field and with the crowd cheering for Rodger to keep going reinsman Daniel Morgan was able to get eveything out of Rodger to just win from Silver Star and Matthew Grant and consistent placegetter Abbey Morgan and her pony Honey third. Despite starting from well back in the field Ashleigh's Honey for Ashleigh Jackson had a good run and the combination should soon be back in the winner's circle.

Race 4 saw Rodger complete a double on the night. Once again with racecaller Mark McNamara doing a fantastic job in getting the crowd behind the mini trotters, Rodger was urged on all the way and the roar when Daniel Morgan and Rodger reached the line proves just what entertainment mini trotters do provide at registered meetings. Stablemate Honey for Abbey Morgan despite a bold bid was just unable to reach Rodger. Sarah Hall and fast improving Jacko gave signs that they will be hard to hold out in future events with a good third.

Leeton Mini Trotting Club conducted four races at the Leeton meet on Saturday night which was the second night of the three night Christmas Carnival. With 18 ponies and 21 child drivers in attendance the night was full of action and spectacular mini trotting driving!

The first race on the card saw newcomer driver, Sam Stening from Wagga, steer his little pony, Rodeo Cowboy, around the track to take the winners prize money. Sam shares the drives on this little pony with brothers James and Harry who also competed throughout the nights racing. Cinderella (Esther Deeves) and Black Babe (Joe Carroll) followed Rodeo Cowboy home to collect the placings.

Race Two was a scratchy affair with the Stewards having their work cut out sorting the placings. After some relegations and disqualifications, the Wyalong horse, Lightening Jack (Rebecca Lamb) was awarded first place, with Murrami Magic (Peter McRae) second and Gold Star (Alanah Pitt) third.

A blanket could have covered the field at the conclusion of Race Three, again the judges having a hard job trying to decipher the winner. Fast finishing Gold Star (Catherine Pitt) was given the judges nod ahead of Nightmare (Cody Carroll) and Cee Wilson (Shayla Mulholland).

The last race for the night again saw a close finish with Gold Star (Alanah Pitt) skipping away at the end to take the victory ahead of Lightening Jack (Rebecca Lamb) and Sabrina (Maddison Carroll).

The racing over the night was a great display from our future harness racing stars. Other ponies who performed well on the night included Little Midget (Makayla Carroll), Magic Merv (Amy Diebert) and Casket (Ben Lamb).
Mini Trotting action returns to Leeton on New Years Night which will be a HUGE night showcasing Harness Racing in Leeton with the Carnival of Cups meeting.
